Lol your at it again.....do U read what U write, you were saying my placements of "but" were incorrect, I mentioned they were correct in the context I was using them....remember? I cannot be bothered to wade thru "War and Peace" to find the post :eek:

:laugh: I wasn't correcting your english there. I said that if you agreed with it_is_me all those "buts" shouldn't be there. Not the word but. The sentences behind the but. Because all those "but" made the post feel like this:
I agree but... and you're right but... and but... and no, in the end I don't agree.

I have one thing to say about this thread...

Yep! Sorry. I really wanted to help you, making people post some evidences about what they were selling to you, but ended up really bad. When recomending something, I like to make clear all the possibilities that you have, and back up my claims of why I recommend that. I just hate when people don't do that, because that way they provide personal preferencies as facts.
And also I feel the need to say and make people say the truth and give proofs and that is why I went with all that. An example is my continuous questions to imperialreign about his claims of IQ superiority in HD3800 over 8800. It would be different If he was claiming IQ superiority between X1000 and series 7, because there it exists some differences.
But again, sorry. Sorry for highjacking you thread.

First off . . . Huxley: if you haven't bought any hardware yet, make sure to check out prices tomorrow on the 23 of November - it's a big sales holiday in the US, and many places will put things on sale - you might be able to get your hardware cheaper.

@darkmatter:
sorry about the delay - spending time with the family today. I also just spent the last two hours trying to find some reviews that I remember reading a week or two ago . . . but can't find them. So, without those reviews to offer backup, I'll have to concede in the IQ argument and state that IQ is negligible between the 3870 and the 8800GT. I'm guessing that seeing as how I can't find those articles, either I'm not putting in the correct terms into google, or those reviews were false and were taken down.

i did run across a couple of decent reviews between the 3870 and the 8800GT, but I'll only post those if requested. Otherwise, we might have to wait until the beginning of next week after the 7.11 Catalyast release for any new IQ reviews.

Anyhow, the partial argument I was trying to make was that at higher screen resolutions, turning on max AA/AF has less of a performance impact on the 3870 as compared to the 8800GT, which is something ATI has been known for for quite some time. Again, though, without having reviews or screenshots between the two to prove it to your liking, then I can't say that the 3870 has better IQ - only negligible; even though I believe it for myself.

Maybe tomorrow, while I'm out and about, I can try and talk one of my buddy's that works for CompUSA to rig up two identical system, but one running an 8800GT and the other running a HD3870, and see if I can't snag some screenies for myself. I don't bet on it, though - tomorrow is a big shopping day here in the US, and they might not be able to accomodate me in that request.

Don't worry about the delay. That's why this is a forum and not a chat. :p
Also don't worry about not providing those comparisons if it's going to take a lot of time. I searched myself for others too, but only found those. And following my logic, I know that some more are needed as proof to make my point a fact. Anyway my point never was "there's no any difference" but that the differece is as you said negligible (thank you for the word), at least I can't find it, and all comparisons that I have seen are done at 4X zoom!!!

I would never ask you to do all that work. It would be interesting though. :rolleyes: Nah! Seriously, don't bother.

Totally agree.

EDIT: I have to ask you to start a new thread if you finally make those comparisons and send me a private message so that it doesn't get lost. We have highjacked this thread enough :eek:, don't you think?

defi on that. I'll keep my eye out for new IQ/performance reviews for the cards, especially after this holiday weekend, now that Cat 7.11 is out (first official drivers for the 3800 series).
