the problem isnt that his PC would use 400W (shit, mine takes massive stress to hit 450W) - its that 200W on one 12V rail can be overloaded. 120W for an OC'd CPU, 40W for a few HDD's and a DVD drive, and the 75W maximum from the PCI-E slot? i can see that being borderline, hardware dependant

well his best choice would be the corsair 550w in that case.
If you can snap yourself extra £10 its worth it.

ok guys thanks for the advice i will try an get the extra money together but if not im sorry to say im going to have to gofor the OCZ. Dont think your advice is going invain however, its just a very very tight wallet

the OCZ will be fine for you at stock. OC'd is the worry.

Just have a look and see if you can get something with more power on the 12V rails for the same price.

In fairness I've got the OCZ stealth 500W and it runs my rig fine, and I wouldn't exactly call it a standard rig.

AMD 6000+ 3.1 Ghz (Has been OC to 3.5 a while back)
1 Hitachi 300GB HDD (SATA)
1 Hitachi 1TB HDD (SATA)
1 Western Digital 120GB HDD (IDE)
ATI 4830 GPU
ATI 2600 GPU
2GB OCZ Ram

And I'm proud to say it never overloads even when running flat out for the Seti project :cool:

but who's to say you arent shaving 2 years off the PSU's life, running it close to the edge?
