We need a podcast!

My GF and I listen to 1UP podcasts all the time, and I think it could be interesting to have weekly or bi-montly pod-casts on TPU about current hardware reviews, news, previews and such. Podcasts are very popular and could be very lucrative for TPU if properly harnessed and executed.

i agree with you kursah.. i listen to some podcasts from some other tech forums... and they really get me updated with whats going on and it really helps, both the user and the tech site.

So what should the audio format be? We need to have a good format that all users be it linux, windows, or mac can use, but also try not to sacrifice any quality

I'd be willing to help like write a little bit of the podcast or w/e just not like the whole thing or anything cause unfortunately school is alot of work. As for podcast format, could you do it in .mp3

I'm thinking mp4, better quality. I think this will be a dl type deal, steaming it would require lots of different resources that I'm not sure we could get.

Looking at this poll result, if podcasts do get implemented, it has to be made a community effort and some of you with ample time at your disposal should execute this. Don't expect things such as (for example):

Malware reading out the news for you like a radio station would. "Hektorr Rouiz said that...."

or

"The HD4870 was lagging behind the 9800 GT with...<trrring>oh sorry phone" -W1zzard

It will be audio news based primarily on news, upcoming products, reviews, and interviews with members of the tech community.

I will be giving info on what positions will be open for the podcast, just give it time.

its basically an mp3 thats deals with a certain topic like tech or Brittany spears, they just call it that because apple coined the term making it cool, and by calling it that they hope to sell/get people to dl more---but atm its just the industry standard for calling mp3's by a different name

This could be a very lucritive opportuninty for the TPU community! I will suggest that maybe a gaming podcast section, and maybe a unique podcast to GPU come about in the future if this does get going! I totally agree it's worth a shot, and if proven successful, I'm sure TPU staff would agree to support it. I also agree MP4 would be the best route to go, decent file sizes, good sound quality and fairly universal support anymore.

I'd say those involved take note from other podcasts and note what is liked or disliked, what we would wanna do differently to not only make the podcast unique, but interesting so that word gets out and people want to download and hear what those involved have to say. I will totally support this in any way I can.

I didn't either till my GF downloaded them to her Zune I got her for xmas...they're kinda like talk-radio show, but with personality and interest in the subject supported, with arguements, suggestions...pretty much like a talking thread with some professionality. I have really only listened to 1UpYours podcasts, and I do get a kick out of them, but they do focus on gaming from consoles to PC's, how they play, what they liked, disliked, true and honest opinions that vary from person to person. Could be a good thing, but in the end it will take some strong drive to get this off it's feet and unique enough to be of interest to the masses...but it can totally be done.

There's a lot of talent on this site, and I see things working out. :toast:

Point taken. It should be noted that we will need to have researchers that will search the web for news (good sources) to report on. Anyway, I will discuss this more in a different thread if we can get the green light.
