Hey guys, wondering in from a google search, hope no one minds me barging in.

I was reading up on some furmark benches for the HD5770 and stumbled upon a great thread over here. Sadly, I was left picking my heart up from the floor as I noticed my Club 3D HD5770 is tugging at the 3 legged race horse.

Average result is in the low 4k's for you guys, but when I benched mine stock, I hit a meager 2.8k

Fired up the old CCC and upped the clocks to 940 GPU clock and 1300 memory clock.

Hit Furmark again and managed a low 3000, which is still miles of most readings, so something definitely up the wrong pooper hole.

Even more concerning, is that even at this modest OC, I'm hitting 74 degrees.
Airflow around the case is superb. Running an Antec P182 SE, so no cables in the way of the air. Ambient temp is pretty, although I can't remember the figure.

I've had suspicions about the card since I built the rig a month ago, with a lot of my games being sluggish at best.

My Rig is as follows:

Intel Core i7 860(stock)
4gb Mushkin Ram DDR3 1600
Asus i55 Sabertooth
WD 1 tb Sata HDD
Club 3D HD 5770 OC (overclocked by a few %)

Any ideas what's going on

Have you checked all the details of your card (eg, ram clockspeed, number of ROPs) and confirmed that every single one of them is ok? Also, have you tried to run other benchmarking softwares (Heaven and so on) and confirmed that it performs just as badly in the rest? I think its RMA time.

Wow, I understood about 5% of your post, yeah, I'm that technically impaired.
Mind explaining that to me in laymans terms? :D

I'll run some other benchmarks, but I can feel that it's not performing as it should when compared to friends rigs with nearly half the power of mine

Download GPUZ and post a screenshot of the data it provides. That will help with the diagnosis.

Oh, I did not notice that you are a newcomer. Welcome to TPU and enjoy your stay!:toast:

Back to the question:
Do what baby Hitler ask you to do: Post a screenshot of GPU-Z

Run another benchmark, eg Heaven and compare your results with other similar systems.
Heaven download

If its really underperforming, its time to return the product and ask for a replacement, citing its not up to par. I never RMA'ed a product, so you will have to seek other people's help.

Some 5770's were released with the wrong bios and only have 720 shaders enabled (google it) (install GPU-Z to see if you have 800 or 720) ATi has released a bios update to open up the extra 80 shaders that are advertised on the GPU.
I would caution you of doing your own bios flash if it should go wrong you could brick the card voiding the warranty all together.

Thanks guys. I'll start off by posting a gpu-z screenie and we can take it from there.

i'm not a total PC noob, been in the business for 15 years, but being on the corporate end of the spectrum, I've not kept up to date with new tech and products.

Thanks for the welcome, it's nice and warm in here

Furmark is not the greatest thing to test gpu peformance

i think maybe try unigine benchmark or 3dmark vantage.

Maybe useless to ask but are you running anything in another pcie slot such as a sound card or anything?

i remember marineborn had a sound card robbing his bandwidth and as soon as he took it out he had gains. his 16x became 8x.. this doesnt really seem like your issue but im just curious.

Nope, nothing running in another pci-e slot. I do have a wireless AP running in a normal PCI slot though, but that makes no difference as far as I can tell.

Kyler - I've heard furmark isn't the best means of benching, but I was running it to check system stability after my modest overclock. Just took notice of the scores and googled some other 5770 furmark scores. Now here I am, with a score almost 1/4 down from the lowest reading of a stock card on here

okay, been reading about the bios problem, seems pretty widespread.

Where would one find the proper bios for a Club 3D HD5770 OC and how would one flash the bios?

I'm actually hoping that it has the same issue as that would make the solution simple.

Oh well, we'll what happens

There is a great deal of hype surrounding 5xxx series ATi. The 5770's aren't that good without crossfireX (2 cards instead of one). A 5870 or 5850 would meet your expectations I would assume. Those are more worth your time.

Dirt 2 on highest runs fine most of the time, but in heavily populated areas, slugs down to a snails pace.

Just Cause 2 I play with all AA settings of and it's still seems sluggish

NFS: Shift is damn near unplayable on even the lowest settings

There are a few that run perfectly, but most feel sluggish and not what I expected from my machine.

I reckon I'll just save up for another 5770 then

The Furmark score still worries me tbh
