ok just ran heaven 2.0 all the same settings and got 475 score 11fps min and 41 max 18.8 avg.
Looks like your system is running fine try overclocking your cpu might help the benchs a bit.

Dirt 2 on highest runs fine most of the time, but in heavily populated areas, slugs down to a snails pace.

Just Cause 2 I play with all AA settings of and it's still seems sluggish

NFS: Shift is damn near unplayable on even the lowest settings

There are a few that run perfectly, but most feel sluggish and not what I expected from my machine.

I reckon I'll just save up for another 5770 then

The Furmark score still worries me tbh

did you install the 1.2 patch for shift?? there was a massive performance issue
YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE SHIFT PATCH
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,...Patch-2-plus-DLC-ready-for-download/Download/
I can max shift out at 1280x1024 @ x4 AA @ 50+ fps

Weird stuff, I got a result, not a good result though.

I installed the 1.02 patch for shift and it was still dog slow, couldn't understand what the hell was going. Decided to install FRAPS to see if patch 1.02 made any difference at all. It didn't, but and this is a big but, I got an average of 131 fps according to fraps, this was with all settings maxed out.

The game still stutters though, but even in the stutter, FRAPS, reports 120-140 FPS.
Booted up Just Cause 2, same issue, although, average of 87 FPS according to FRAPS. Same with Dirt 2 and Battlefield. Seems all my games are running at a good solid FPS, but the stutter gives the perception of lag, while the FPS stay constant.

What the hell could be causing this stuttering? I'm running Catalyst 10.3

Bad news, stuttering is still there. I average around 90FPS on most games, but still stutter like crazy on about 10 of them

as a last resort try the following
start>run services.msc >> super fetch > right click > disable ;reboot
also start > device manger > sounds and audio devices > ATI HDMI audio device > rightclick > disable > reboot
also try installing the amd chipset drivers
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?driver=Integrated/vista32-chipset
and as a final resort call the guy that buildt and and tell him he did it wrong :D jk

I'm a sad panda.

Bought Metro 2033 over the weekend, FRAPS says average of 80fps but it stutters like crazy.

I've even tried Catalyst 10.4 and everything else suggested on here, I'm close to giving up

just since i havent seen it mentioned... have you tried another PSU? while 460W is enough, coolermaster PSU's tend to be utter shit.

it could well be dropping to 2D clocks and raising back to 3D rapidly due to low power (and then getting enough power in 2D so it tries to rise up again), hence causing your stuttering

I haven't tried a different PSU.

I was under the impression that if power was insufficient, it just wouldn't boot. Would it cause stuttering?

poor power can cause stuttering (as driver crashes and restarts, or clocks drop to 2D and back), crashes, sudden shutdowns, all sorts of things.

never assume something CANT be the problem, until you've completely ruled it out by thorough testing (in the case of PSU's, trying a second PSU aint enough - its gotta be better quality with more power as well)

test the card in another machine, or borrow a PSU off someone.

edit:

we can tell somethings really wrong with this PSU, from this alone:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=10157

if you look at the bottom, it says the combined wattage mustnt exceed 401.5W... on a 460W unit.

make sure its from a decent brand, testing with a 700W generic piece of crap that came with a case isnt going to help, whereas testing with a 420W corsair would be fine.

safe bets are corsair, antec, seasonic, and PC power and cooling (aka PCP&C).

that PSU you have isnt even legal to sell in europe, its a very outdated design without even passive PFC (google it, its not hugely important, but it is extremely rare to not have these days)
