I don't believe thats correct I think the interface is 512bit

I think he meant the 3850x2 refers as 2 3850 instead of the other way around. Again correct me if I am wrong. :nutkick:

No the 4000 series will pwn all the 3000 series due to the 1 GHz core clock.

the 4000 series cores are not supposed to go over 800 mghz but they are supposed to have independant overclockable shaders

AMD has just confirmed the marketing name for RV770 yesterday which is no surprise to anyone, the Radeon HD 4800 series. RV770PRO is Radeon HD 4850, RV770XT is Radeon HD 4870 and R700 is Radeon HD 4870 X2. AMD will be shipping RV770 GPUs to AIB by end of this month and you can expect different card designs from the manufacturers at launch. AMD is set to launch the Radeon HD 4850 on June 18th and it is definitely a hard one with retail availability on the same day. Radeon HD 4870, however, will be launched a week later on June 25th with retail availability in July due to GDDR5 availability. Radeon HD 4870 X2 will come later in Q3. As for the clocks, we won't be revealing them yet but the RV770XT core clock is not going anywhere above 800MHz.

From what I've read it was the core. Or was it just a rumor?

LOLz. Did you know that it was 2 GPU? Otherwise it will be X1 instead of X2. GPU-z only shows 1 GPU if I'm right. And crossfire is disabled there so no luck either. But it wouldn't make sense since the GPU CLock and memory is X2 according GPU: Default ratio.

hmm hmm.... We were not talking about benches. Someone said the X2 is really 512 MB instead of 1 GB and 256 Bit instead of 512 Bit.

its still two independant memory buses, both 256bit. and two independant frame buffers, both 512bit.

Here's a gpuz shot from one of the TPU Reviews of the 3870 X2. AMD Doesnt make a board at the moment with a 512bit bus.

Is it each GPU is working on a seperate 512MB/256bit or is it 2 GPU working as a whole totalling 1GB/512bit? Don't know if thats confusing.

its like having two separate cards so each gpu has 512mb on a 256bit bus

There's a KO (knock out) variant of the 9800 GTX that has the highest clocks, sells for ~$230 at the egg.

I have a feeling that the 3850x2 is going to hold it's value better, just by being more rare than the 9800gtx, not to mention more of a novelty with being one of ati's first dual cards.

Why 9800? Get a 8800GTS 512MB: pretty much identical, just the 9800GTX is pricier. And as others have said, newer cards and TRUE 9 series cards are coming.

I agree, either get the 8800gts or a 3850x2.

Erocker a 8800gts is not apart of this poll. The answer to his question is a 9800gtx overclocks higher than a 8800gts.
