imho 4k is not ready to be a "average joe" tech and is reserved to hyper enthusiast with multi 290/290X/295X2/780Ti/Titan black/Titan *heavy laughter* Z

single cards : 1440/1600´P or 1080P "trimon" and 1440/1600P is quite impressive when you come from a 1080P

tho it's fun ... 3840x2160 is only a double HD so we are gaming in 2K when we do 1080P
my options are limited in that field :
"i want to go 4K oh well i buy a 2nd 290 for cheap a 750+ PSU and a 4K monitor" Cost: Maximum because without the 2nd 290 and PSU the monitor will not be worth it.
"i upgrade from 1080P to 1440P or 1600P, i find a good 30-32" monitor of that kind and i use the money of the PSU and 290 for something else " Cost: variable but i will see a difference over a 32" 1080P TV (no DVI only DSUB9 and HDMI  )

not even in a close future dream, that argument is not worth the point for a 4K screen imho ... also resolution might be supported (and 1080/1200/1440/1600 will still be here) but if you don't go CFX 290/290X or SLI 780/780Ti, a 1440-1600P monitor will give good result too.

4K is kinda overhyped due to "oh look it's the new standard we should all switch to it" but in the end its the GPU who are bounding it, no actual single gpu card can drive it with ultra settings, also ultra settings, i love to use ultra too but since they are some of those settings who do near nothing lowering the settings to get better FPS is also a good idea no matter what power you have in your computer ... for bench and stressing a GPU maybe but for playing not that much, some games look near same between high and ultra or even medium.

worth something 4K is good for TV tho yet no TV channel (Hd or not) use it nor DVD/deadray aherm i mean Bluray

In reality, 4k Support is only getting started this year so it will be at least a year before things really get cranking out. If you want to get started, you might want to wait until at least Next gen or make a SLI/CFX performance setup and then select your favorite monitor. But in truth it might be better to wait...Sadly i'm not patient :p

What is this SLI/CFX that you speak of?

    Dual, triple, or Quadruple GPU's.

SLI is Nvidia's Dual, triple, and quadruple card setup name
CFX (Or Crossfire) is AMD's Dual, triple, or Quadruple card setup name

Basically you need at least 2 high end GPU's with a hefty amount of ram to run in 4k resolution at decent graphics settings (Generally speaking high graphics or higher on most games).

I wouldn't touch 4K right now unless you want something that is obsolete quickly. Go for one of the many 1440p 120hz monitors on eBay.

usually i use : NONE... even at 1080P for extra FPS,not mentioning that i often find no differences at all between no AA and 8x MSAA/FXAA,/ie: Tera, who is not "AMD friendly" but less since the Reaper patch, Crysis 3 BF3/4 FC3) but in not so much taxing game i use 8x MSAA (ie: SWTOR FFXIVARR)

(edit: ok i have hypermetropia astigmatism ... maybe i do a biological AA due to my eyes conditions :D  )

best... there is no best: try them out and see if you see any difference, and if none then use the one who give you the most fps

._. i am having trouble differentiating the settings because i have to exit the menu section first on assassins creed 4 before looking inspecting some changes.

like in all games ... and yep if you see no difference then there is no visible difference (for you)

if no MSAA/FXAA = near good as with MSAA/FXAA then setting it on the lowest or even none at all is a good idea: Anti-aliasing impact on fps (not that it is a problem with a 290/290X ) so the lower the better if the game look good either with or without then better without than with (i need a aspirin ...i think)

edit: i was also a "ultra settings" freak until one day i noticed that some settings bring less amelioration (eye candy) than they bring limitations (fps), it is not wrong to want to run at the max details but only if it bring a visible amelioration

just like Vsync ... i hated limiting the FPS to the refresh rate of a screen (60hz for my 32" TV) but it can make the game more smooth and also limit the GPU work and heat ( a 290 running at 60fps constant is "colder" than if she has to run between 65 and 140fps, IE: in SWTOR no Vsync all settings max 78° average, with Vsync 56° average with little spike to 65° sometime)

Vsync is limitating the higher FPS to your screen/monitor/TV refresh rate usually 60hz/75hz but some monitor (rarely TVs) do 120hz and above

example: my TV is 60hz in SWTOR if my FPS is between 55 and 145 depending the zone/scene/pj in the scene if i use Vsync my FPS will only vary from 55 to 60 max less difference between min and max = smoother feeling, tho 60fps is considered as the minimum acceptable, the human eye make no huge difference after 30fps (under 30fps is generally considered as "unplayable: lower your setting")
