I like my generic Logitech mouse I got at walmart for $15. It is a great mouse. It has everything I want. Simple 3 button layour (LMB, RMB, mouse wheel), the aforementioned mouse wheel, optical, and it's pretty durable I guess.

I'm using a MS intellimouse ATM, I love having the extra 2 side buttons, makes gaming a lot easier, cus I can have important commands mapped to them.

I have just updated now actually and ordered myself a MS Laser mouse 6000, gives me the same two side buttons but laser accuracy, and hopefully more ergonomic. Have always liked the feel of MS mice. Came very close to getting the Logitech MX 400, but was hearing of people having trouble with the hardness of the middle button and games not recognising the side buttons. So I opted for the MS mouse instead, Can't wait!

games that dont recognise the side buttons are just the games faults. Hell, teamspeak only sees my firsts side button and not the uppermost one

I think they are something to do with the driver software tho, the MS mouse treats them as extra buttons, where as logitech has them as navigation buttons, so most games cant see them as buttons.

i dont even install the logitech software and mine work 99% of the time. theres only a few games it doesnt... oh and the logi software lets you rebind them. For example, you could set the forward button to minus, and then bind the game control you wanted it for to minus. It does have a workaround.

I'm using this one and it's great. But the surface is very slippery, it's not like with older MS mice that had a grainy feel. Mine is actually not that slippery any more as I've used this for months and it has worn a bit. (sanding the sides is one option if you are in to long gaming sessions, in normal use it doesn't matter).

Although you don't need to lift this mouse, as it's way faster than your old one,you will still try to first and get frustrated of the slipperiness but you'll get used to it.

Side buttons are also more forward than any other mice. I like them, as you can't accidentally press them ever, but again you need the used to the placement.

The laser engine is absolutely solid. It won't skip ever and it's very precise. I would how ever recommend that you hack the usb.sys to 500hz to make it even better (google will help with it) and get some mouse skates on bottom. edit: seems you are in Vista too, 500hz thingy is harder to do than in XP. Used it i XP but left it be in Vista.

You'll also love the cord. It's very thin and feels closest you can get to a cordless mouse, as doesn't pull. Also the accelerated scrolling option is awesome in drivers and precision booster is useful if your into photo shopping.

Oh and this is smaller than your previous one and a bit narrower in the middle. If you are a palm gamer it might be too small, I use fingers so it's fine.

Pointer speed in the middle + enhance pointer precision is what I use in desktop and its under mouse width from side to side in 1024pixels. Have fun, it's a big improvement from 400dpi optical, came from it too

Indeed I was just going to say that, I have not had issues with the software (-battery warnings in games) as they have lots of ways to let you set the keys

Thanks for the detailed review, I game with fingers, have a gel mousemat to support my wrist, hate the way with this mouse I always hit the far side button cus it is so long, and know what you mean, pickinh up the mouse to keep moving across the screen, lol! laser must be really sensitive then!!!
Anyway can't wait for it, I assume I dont have to install intellipoint, I haven't for this one.
Like to keep my computer with as least stuff on it as poss.

Same here, gel pad under my wrist, couldn't live without. I have the smallest Ulti-mat Breathe X1 260mm x 180mm (10,24inch x 7,09inch) 6€ (7,24$). Plenty of space and don't even use it all sideways.

Works without the software, left button is back and right is magnify, if I remember correctly. At least those are the default settings. Intellipoint is 1.4megs running not bad, using it to map reload to right button and tune accelerated scrolling. Without it it should be recognized as any Microsoft 5 button mouse and the usual settings they allow.

And your welcome, it will feel fast and couple days hard to hit buttons. After that if you plug in the old mouse and try them both together you wonder how could have I used something so slow

You can all laugh but 5 years ago I bought a semi-generic $5 "Elements" mouse and found it fit my hand perfectly, and it still is working today!

Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 set to 1000 Hz, acceleration set to off via CPL mouse fix. Used it for about 3 years now and I am on my third 3.0 Nothing beats it for low sensitivity. I have big hands so it is by far the best mouse for me.

I also play with very low sensitivity, Most of the time i try to keep the dpi high but if the game will not go low enough I will go down to 400dpi to get the right speed.

I really liked the Fatal1ty mouse I had. It fit big hands and felt pretty good, although the ring finger button was a little goofy. But even after they released a next-gen model the entire lineup is still plagued with dying buttons. My index finger button broke after three weeks.

Currently using a Creative 7600. Not bad. Got it for 10 bucks, and it goes up to 2500dpi.

Sure is hard to find BIG mice, though.
