Which RAM fan?

Ok guys. I want to get a ram cooler for my system.
I wanted to get others opinions on this.

@Mods: Can I get Whick changed to Which?

EDIT: Thanx to Tatty, I am also considering the Antec Spot Cool. If that is your vote, please vote other, then mention it in a post.

EDIT2: The OCZ is out. It will likely interfere with my gfx card,considering my mobo's layout.

The corsair has a 3 year warranty, however its fans are smaller than the OCZ (40mm compared to 60mm). Both look pretty decent to me...

Hopefully they dont spin fast enough to make any ugly noises.
Someone mentioned that the OCZ was a tight fit with large graphics cards, will that x2900 of yours be a problem?

My ram is on the opposite side of the cpu, compared to normal. SO yeah, clearance could be an issue, regardless of card.

i have the corsair ram fan and it works quite well. easy to attach, doesnt take up much space, keeps my ram cool and is quite. :respect:

the OCZ is a smooth flat top - you cant get wires or anything sucked into the fans, and i THINK its lower than the corsair one.

Also, the OCZ is designed for 4x ram modules, so it works better if the rams spaced further apart - i think the corsair ones more aimed at two modules next to each other.

I voted for "other" so it's says that I should explain. I have used a number of different Ram coolers in my time and actually briefly had the OCZ although I think it may have been the previous model unless this one has been available for a year or more, they look the same though.

I have found them all to be OK and do the job but I have found and was advised to try a normal fan setup as an active cooling solution, for a number of reasons really....greater airflow generally, more power when needed etc etc So I bought the Antec spot cooler that for those of you that dont know it is an 80mm fan that can be fixed into any of the mobo base plate screw holes, it has a pretty blue LCD, has a fully adjustable arm for postioning, has its own built in fan control for 3 speeds, can be positioned with some considerable reach so it can be as close as an inch from the sticks or as far as you like, it's more versatile as in you can use it for any other cooling solution.....ohhhh and it is cheaper than decent dedicated RAM coolers.

I never used the OCZ on my current Ram but on my last Kingston Hyper X DDR400 ram running at 500Mhz speeds ther spot cooler kept my memory chips cooler truly and with my current ram setup, when running at DDR1170 speeds with 2.35V going thru them it keeps them cool (not even warm) to the touch.

Just my two penneth worth.

Mine are next to each other for dual channel, so no probs there. Oh, and thanx. :toast:

The biggest thing I'm concerned with is possible clearance issues with the OCZ and my 2900. It's the one I like better (well, except for LED fans. I hate LED fans), so I was hoping to get some feedback from people that have it, and how much it overhangs the RAM locking tabs.

It does cover the locking tabs if I remember rightly and denies access to the tabs without dismounting the fan, I also had some issues with the size because at the time I had an artic cooling freezer 64Pro with the mounted side fan and I had to change the setup as the cooler with fan would not fit in place with the ram cooler on.

Hey man, I have the OCZ cooler and trust me, with a setup like that, this cooler won't fit. I can BARELY fit it in mine, but my RAM is on the right side of the cooler like normal. There's no way that would fit with your mobo setup.

No problem. Glad I could save you the trouble. Seriously, though, I didn't think the OCZ cooler would fit after I upgraded my system to what it is now, but lucky, I had just enough clearance.

The board I'm using has the same style layout as yours, RAM on the opposite side of the board to usual, but has more space. Yours looks like it does not enough space, mine seems to have a little more clearance between card and RAM (I can take out the RAM without touching the graphics card).
I'd second the spot cooler. I've never had active RAM cooling in my own case, but the spot cooler seems to be the most useful really.

Oh and Dom, geez, you have some tight spaces in that case...

just as something my brother used in his system - Antec spot cool fan. it attaches to the spots the mobo screws into the case, and is somewhat flexible.

It has bright blue LED's, but on low it is quite quiet - also, its 3-pin so if you get it to 7-10V and THEN use its controllers, you can manage totally silent use.

I just got done installing the Spot Cool. It moves a very good amount of air, and is pretty quiet. Even on the highest setting it's not too bad at all. The only thing I don't like is the LEDS, but, eh, I can live with it. Once I go water on the 2900, I'm gonna buy 2 more of these to make sure the ram and mosfets stay nice and cool on her.

I have the Corsair XMS Airflow, it does a great job and covers 4 DIMMS, the 3 fans spin about 5400 RPMs but it's not loud at all, and does a great job on cooling, check my sys specs under my RAM, idle was 3-5C+ and load was I think ~10-13C+ w/o the cooler on it. I am very impressed, plus it's a very sturdy build, the clips fit tight and it's adjustable. Hope that helps! :toast:
