Why do the AMD mobos always look weak?

Excluding the Crosshair Formula, almost every AMD mobo looks weak compared to the intel ones. Where are the big monstrous machinegun north bridge styled motherboards? Please AMD mobo manufacturers, MAKE SOME SICK AM3 MOBOS!!

It's not needed. AMD motherboards do not need the mass amounts of cooling as they don't get as hot as Intel chipsets. They work well, costs are lower.

I can't believe you filled out the "massive" registration process just to say that.

    Edit:

If you want flashy bits on your AMD board you could always start gluing, soldering and ramming things at high speed onto it. Cut up a pop can and glue bits of it all around. On a more serious note just get some of the aftermarket northbridge or mosfet coolers and some thermal compound / adhesive and mod some of your own up.

I understand what he is saying. Intel boards always seem to look "Meaner".

My theory. Intel right now is the OC'ers choice. MoBo companies know this and they know OC'ers love flash!... :rockout:

The new Phenoms are supposed to kick it with a OC, but you still won't need a "bling" cooling system for the NB/SB

I love the way the Asus 790fx board looks. They deffinitely went with the "bling" factor.

I think some of the higher end AMD boards look awesome.. I like the ASUS 790FX's, MSI 790FX's, Biostar 790GX's, any DFI LP DK, and I gotta say the brownish PCB of my ASUS 780G is pretty nice. I like plain tho, I hate having lights flashing everywhere and bling.

The mobos that you are looking for are meant for enthusiast but there aren`t any AMD CPU that fit that category (don`t get me wrong I`m AMD fan ) so who needs enthusiast mobo for week overclocker. How mobo manufacturer will justify 300$ mobo "Hey look with this board you can oc your phenom from 2.4GHz all the way to 2.6GHz" I don`t think so.
I hope this will change with Phenom II.

They don't need huge northbridge coolers or whatever, the IMC (Integrated Memory Cooler) is built into the chip, not the northbridge like LGA775 motherboards, so it's a much smaller, cooler running northbridge.

I do agree though, they just don't look as "cool" as the Intel boards.

I`m reading TPU every day for 5 years !!! techpowerup.com is my home page. And I registered once before 3-4 years to ask wizzard if my sapphire x800gto can be soft moded and than I forgot the user name etc. And now not long ago I signup again. I`m not member of any other forum. And I work in computer shop for 5 years total and I have put together 5 years x 12 months x 30 systems on average = 1800 assambled and installed computer
Can any one beat this ? :D
And I`m not member of any forum guess that :D

To me it doesn't look weak. Maybe it's just the color scheme that makes it appear weak or physically. scheme is physically :)

I've heard a lot of kids whining lately about the lack of overpriced AMD boards. As someone used to paying through the nose for high-end Intel boards, I appreciate the value offered by the other side. But if you must have gimmicks...

Before Sapphire's Atomic site closed for renovations, they announced plans for Atomic branded mainboards. Could be worth a look provided they're not just repainted DFI boards like last time. Gainward (Palit) also have ambitions for the cutting edge but Palit's current lineup doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

There are rumours AMD intend to resurrect FASN8 if AM3's TDP's prove more manageable. "AMD Canada" are said to be pushing for an 890FX2 platform. I hope they succeed.

dude AMD boards look weak??? I dunno sounds like an off the wall comment. I guess DFI's boards look like yesterday's news and everything else isn't nice because they don't shove water cooling on it or some ugly HS on the NB which doesn't really do a whole lot.
