Hey guys, what is your opinion on the 780ti for games like bf1 nowadays?

I've been pc gaming for 15 years and never once bought a brand new graphics card lol. In my option hardware can go a long way if taken care of. :D

True but man you must really have to crank settings down in new games with that old beast you have! Honestly all the cards we spoke of would be huge upgrades for you so just a matter of how cheap and what you are looking for and Nvidia titles versus AMD etc.

With 3GB VRAM, it's still a great card for WoW, CS, Solitaire...

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Yep, I budged A LOT... good call.

And the 980ti is a bit slower than the 1070 gents.
If you overclock a 980Ti and a 1070 to their 'limits' (~1500 Mhz on the 980Ti and 2100 on the 1070), the 980Ti creeps closer, indeed, but it is still generally slower.

you think you proved your point finding an average of 3% when the closest you imply it gets is 12% at stock?
Yes, but not for that reason. I did mention it would get closer, and even in some titles beat it. But even after overclocking both cards, it was still a bit slower. 3% from real data (glad you provided something after all of your exhaustive research, lol!). Be clear what I didn't agree with was your assertion, and I guess now after seeing your post, definition, of 'reversal and then some'. To me it said just that, reverse the results, in that, the 980Ti was that same percentage ahead the 1070 was to it.... and then some. So in essence, if the 980Ti was XX% behind, what I thought you were saying was that the 980Ti was now XX% ahead after both cards were overclocked. But to you, reversal and then some (though you are now willing to drop the then some), means that its X% (greater than margin of error) slower overall and may win some. Ok. I got it now. Ambiguous definition of reversal and then some... LOL! :)

Ok, I need to stop this... I digress. dalek, my PM box is open if needed.

Fair enough, I also addressed that one statement and I will also say you are only going on my original statement while ignoring yours, and also I did note you changed and added past replies to "correct" things you said. I only added to my responses but I did not change anything or delete anything. Regardless you at best said it was "closer" and creeps closer etc, that is at least as "off" an assessment as me saying ti generally wins. Also I was first to put screenshots of actual data of even THE 1070 you talked about and the 12-24% difference you kept implying versus the ti was erased entirely. I won't even concede I'm wrong, yet. Perhaps total reversal/then some is wrong. But at the least your blanket statement of the 1070 being the winner and the ti "losing" generally is seriously questionable by your own article you posted. I will and am going back and also looking at not just overall percentages but actual title wins because ti still may have won majority, an average is bastardized by one card killing one in one title for example and yet that card could "win" percentage overall but lose the majority of games tested.

Up until last week I was gaming happily on a 770. I don't have BF1, so I can't comment on that, but I can attest that even the 770 still has more than decent gaming chops at 1080p. So a 780ti will do you fine, I think. If you're looking at one to buy, just be mindful of price-performance... that's what I've been harping on this whole conversation. So make sure you don't pay good money for a 780ti when a 980 can be had for a few dollars more (just a hypothetical example.)

If your specs are correct then I would say the 780 Ti would be a very nice upgrade from your 570.

From his specs, I'd say his processor is a significant upgrade from an abacus.

If i said X5677 it means that he has to get a 1366 Board:p

Obviously:pimp:

I so happen to have that processor and a board, however it wouldn't work with evga board due to bios incompatibility.

This is supposed to be a tech enthusiast site, and we are talking about overpaying for obsolete 900 series cards?

my msi gtx gaming 980 minus me frying it was a beauty, very high build quality OC'd high and was dead silent...as Wizz said in review it was almost the perfect version of the 980. I don't know how close 980 vs 1060 but I don't think it's a big difference either way performance wise but I'm sure the 1060 uses way less juice so yeah it'd be preferable unless it was priced significantly higher.

Off topic or not this is good stuff, I am enjoying all the input. Still haven't gotten a card yet, looking to only spend $200 or less though. I'll also look into some used ddr3 ram.

Are you still enjoying it once I and others blew it up? :)

The Power Consumption, the Power Consumption! Caw Caw Rawwwwk!

And folks just FYI this is the bastard and the bastardly meme that was sent to me in a PM which got me into this thread in the first place lol. This SOB used this meme (which was a private joke from another joust we had a while back about power consumption and GPU's) and admittedly I never even went back to first page to see WTF the thread was about...other than GPU's and that this guy was asking about them I never even realized how far off we were discussing specifically a 980ti vs a 1070 neither of which he asked about whatsoever just people wandered onto somehow....then I have to give Ungari credit here I think he baited me into this thread hoping it'd get entertaining....

However I feel a bit vindicated he did say "900 series" in his original post and ti is certainly part of it so however whisper thin the connection to my content at least it vaguely was related to his comments:p

Q: Will the 900 series Nvidia cards work with my Asus Maximus III formula P55 chipset?
*see system specs for further compatibility issues (if any)

Thank you
specifically he said ^^

Your posts are about as useless for the OP as mine in this thread ungari. At least its not more AMD fanboy splooge though!! :p

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of the AMD 480 I think it's power consumption is just sad for 14nm and performance it puts out. Ironically that parrot meme was exact one he used on me during our argument about the 480 vs. whatever nvidia product I was comparing it to.

Read through all five pages so far and I was surprised no one mentioned this fantastic review by the fabled W1zard himself showing PCIe scaling on a GTX 980. I think this is the closest thing you're going to have to worry about as far as "board incompatibility". Checking the manufacturer's specs on that Asus Maximus III board, you've got a 16x PCIe 2.0 slot to play with, which means there's a ~1% hit on performance (aka nothing to worry about).

Even if, for some reason, you decided you needed to go with dual GTX 980s (which would knock you down to 8x PCIe 2.0 on each card), you'd still only be looking at a 6% hit, although I'm sure you'd have bigger, more important issues to worry about if you did that.

I don't think anyone actually directly answered the question in the first post.
Q: Will the 900 series Nvidia cards work with my Asus Maximus III formula P55 chipset?
Sure it'll work! PCIe is backward compatible, so there shouldn't be any issues at all getting it to fire up. As mentioned above, not only will it work fine, there shouldn't even be much of a performance hit.
Originally I just wanted to swap the gpu with something better, faster and magical.., but now realizing my pc might be a dinosaur.
It's gaining age, sure, but I wouldn't call it a dinosaur. Looking in system specs, only other thing I'd say needs attention is the RAM, assuming you're still only rocking 4GB. Buying new, looks like you should be able to move that up to 16GB for about $100. I'm sure you could find something for less (4x4GB kit?) used.

I don't think anyone actually directly answered the question in the first post.

I've answered it three times now, whenever someone has accused the thread of being off topic lol. The topic has been answered, and the OP was cool with us continuing on with the speculation and comparison.

But I didn't specifically mention PCI-E scaling (which apparently isn't a thing, according to that review lol) so thanks for adding that nuance!

It doesn't matter on this board if the OP is happy with OT comments.

Funny. I haven't seen a single mod in this thread... Until now and I read your idiotic post and had to respond. The continuing of name calling our members is going to stop now. Posting off topic is going to stop now. Posting your FUD crap is going to stop now. This is your final warning.

You are correct, there were no mods on this thread, yet certain members like to behave as enforcers so as ingratiate themselves with certain mods so as to get preferential treatment.
I maintain that I have done nothing wrong here except go OT, and this "FUD", "name calling", you accuse me of is just more of your trumped-up infractions to get me unfairly banned.
It's amazing how quickly you showed up on the thread after I posted. Are you Following me? If so, I'm flattered!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. TPU has always been very good at self-cleanup, LONG before you showed up this year. If we can gently nudge and remind each other, it keeps people out of trouble. Or would you prefer a heavyhanded moderation site like some others that are absolutely no fun because of it?

And what exactly do people get from this "ingratiating" you seem to "know" they are engaging in? Is there a prize? I've got news for you....hold on to your hat...this forum is a fake world. Nothing is gained from it...it means nothing in the grand scheme of life.

Speaking of the gtx970, what's the deal with this evga lawsuit I'm reading about? (I've been outta the loop) In a nutshell, was there a mass issue with the 970 or just a few bad eggs? if it's no big deal. I'm looking into a 970 for sure. :)

People who had GTX 970s regardless of manufacturer were awarded $35 from Nvidia as compensation for having only 3.5GB of fast VRAM, instead of the advertised 4GB.
I simply cannot understand why you would still be considering anything less than a 980Ti after all the discussion.
