Left 4 Dead freezing

OK, ever since the demo was released I've been having freezing issues. I figured it had something to do with the fact that it was a demo and not a full release version, but I got the real thing yesterday and it's still doing it. The system in my specs is the one I'm playing it on, and it's more than capable of running it. Temps are fine too. Only thing I can suspect is my sound card because it's so damn old and it gives issues in some other games. Any of you guys got any other ideas? Just updated to the newest nVidia drivers too.

Ha, I experienced the 180.xxx bugs first hand, as soon as it loaded I had problems. Back on the 178's now. Can't update my sound drivers...it's at the EOL. Just checked my mobo drivers and they are up to date as well. HMMMM

What kind of freezing do you get?

I get two problems with mine:

Sometimes it will just crash onto desktop without a trace of L4D left
Sometimes it will just lock up and I need to cntrl alt delete my way out.

I think mine was overheating tho, as smartdoctor wasnt installed and my fan was @ cosntant 31%.

I get the second one, always. I noticed that my fan was no longer running at 100% like I had it set, but that's fixed now. Over-heating was never an issue with this card to begin with though.

I havnt any issues with L4D nocrashes or something else goes very smooth and nice.the only one game i got issues is gta4 from my collection.(Mercenaries 2,Dead space,GTA4,L4D,Fallout 3,Far Cry 2, Stalker:clear Sky, Sacred 2,Alone in the dark 5,Phantasy star universe:illuminatos)+lineage 2 and some olf fashion games.)

Wow, now it's not freezing but just crashing to the desktop. Three times in less than an hour. Any ideas on what's going on here?

you guys are aware of the bugs and issues that L4D have right? Link i have had the Steam Log In Error Message(while trying to join a game in L4D), Shutdown of Steam Issue, Crashing, Freezing, Mic. Issues in Lobby, Etc.

Have you tried uninstalling the sound card and running with just onboard sound? That could help you rule out something.

Well that is interesting I must say a WIndows update....Leave it to Microsoft to screw it up.
Why not try downloading the lastest drivers too for you video card.
Cant hurt.

that didnt work for me. i updated my video drivers and did a complete reinstall of the game. then i remember i didnt have automatic windows update on and did an update and it was fine. it was strange because it was working fine for the first month i owned it.

I only had an issue with it the first time I ran it, I couldn't exit out of the game. So I rebooted and now it runs flawless at over 100fps. 180.84 driver here. Make sure to have Nov 2008 dx installed.
