Please help me with choosing either ATI 4850 512mb or Nvidia GTS 250 512mb

why not? is it hard????

this is the same card as the Palit one they are both horrible coolers and both are 2-Pin fans so you won't be able to control the fan. I would only buy the HIS one because of the VRM heatsink. but if I had another choice it would be this for a couple extra dollars you will get a true dual slot cooler with a better bundle and a fan you can control.

I went with a 9800GTX+. I keep hearing that ATI drivers are still a nightmare. Good luck AMD.

im very confused. Choosing between Nvidia GTS 250 512mb or 4850 512mb.

gts 250 512mb is only $25 more expensive than 4850.

do u think even if i upgrade my 8800GS 384mb to gts 250, will it be worth it????

so are u sure that HIS card has memory heatsink? why is it a bad cooler? i dont mind if it runs at 100% all the time. but will it cool effeciently? better than palit one?

it doesnt look like that it has memory heatsinks. and people over there say that it runs cool. do u believe that???

+1
Go for the XFX.Its a great card with great cooler.
And as for the AMD drivers, they do a wonderful job in the last 6 months so u dont have a problem.Especially in xfire they do GREAT.So dont worry but when a new version gets released first wait for a review that compares them with the previous version and see if its benefitial to upgrade. But in general 4850 from me and after some time,u might want to try ocing her and get even better performance;)

Damn guys. i just saw that the HIS 4850 card http://www.extremepc.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=124_128&products_id=3270 has increased in price to $325 after GST!!!! it was like $305 after GST just few hours ago.!! very weird.

and i dont want the palit version which stayed at $305.

So at this very moment, Nvidia GTS 250 512mb and ATI HIS 4850 are both at the same price of $325.

If the price stay the same, which card u would buy or recommend me to buy between the two??

I would take the Galaxy GTS 250 512 over the 4850's.

BumbleBee: But what would be your reason? Wouldnt you get tempted with the 800 SP that 4850 has? my main interest of 4850 is that it has 800 shader processors and people say that those shader processors help with the use of AA or AF so applying AA is less performance hit for the 4850.

so what do u think????

and in this benchmark http://www.guru3d.com/article/galaxy-geforce-9800-gtx-512mb-review/9

9800GTX+ beats 4850 in every game. GTS 250 512mb should be similar but cheaper.

shaders work differently on ATI. GTS 250 is a 9800GTX+ but the power consumption and pcb is smaller, it's cooler and quieter and you can SLI with a 9800GTX+

BumbleBee: SO you wouldnt get 4850 just because it has 800 SP?

I thought because 4850 has 800 SP it should destroy all the Geforce cards and tear them apart. lol.

but seeing as how 9800GTX+ is faster when it has only 128 SP then u wonder.......

yes I know I was only pointing it out about the GTS 250, he may want to buy a new motherboard some day.

I will most likely buy GTS 250 512MB. Because its an improved 9800GTX+. Lower power usage, cooler, smaller, better drivers, Nvidia Physix, in most cases faster than 4850, Nvidia optimized games, can be overclocked MUCH better (in a benchmark i saw that they overclocked the memory to 1450mhz and the core 800mhz and shader to 1990mhz).

so yeah. all those features. I wish 4850 was like this. I wish those 800 SP were actually real Shader processors :(. lol .

lol. why?:) we are still discussing........

No wait. I am still thinking and collecting opinions. I am not 100% sure yet.

eidairaman1: I really like the 4850. but i wish it was more faster than 9800GTX+. and also i wish on Vista we could use a geforce card as a physix with the 4850. and i wish those 800 shader processors were actually doing something.......

Man be careful af what u write...4850 is a magnificent card and here i can find it for 125 euros only. With 250euros u get 2 of them,u oc them to 800 easy (voltmod) and u have the performance quite close to 4870x2 that costs 420 euros here...No need to speak for 9800gtx sli.XFIRE drivers are much metter than SLI nowdays.
So think before u speak about the 800 shaders.

lol. firstly, i dont live in where u live. second, i dont voltmod. and like it or not those 800 SP werent put in a good use. :)

anyway, do u think getting a GTS 250 512mb is worth the upgrade from 8800GS 384mb???

Well, I went from a 8800GT 512 to a 4870 1GB so I guess the 'change' in performance is about as equal :P

If you feel like you need the extra performance then sure, I guess

Well the fact that the ATI 800 SPs dont !!!OUTPERFORM-LIKE-6TIMES!! THE 128nvidia SPs means that u ignore the different technologies of the companies and of course that u dont know what u r talking about.First learn about the cards, then about ocing and then judge.
>those 800 SP werent put in a good use. <
Thats one of the most FUNNY things i ve seen in here!
Thousands of people have 4850s and are more than satisfied!Perform good cost low and OC like HELL!
Ati made a fortune from this card...

Please be reasonable. we are all in here to learn. a 9800GTX+ leads in most benchmarks with its 128 SP whereas 4850 is behind when it has 800 SP!!!!!

So please enlighten me if u know their architecture.

just because thousands of people bought 4850 it doesnt mean that its the best card.

4850 should "murder" 9800GTX+ with its 800 SP. but sadly its rather behind the 9800GTX+ in most cases!! its totally unusual.
