Hi, I'm fairly new to overclocking video cards and just registered for this forum. I'm hoping you guys can put me in the right direction.

Anyways, I have a XFX HD-487A-CDF9 Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB and its seriously overheating when gaming and I need to find a cooler for it so I can play Fallout 3 for more than 10 min at time...

I've finally found the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 4870X2 VGA Cooler at HeatsinkFactory.com but they are on pre-order. They are shipping on June 2nd.

What do you guys think of this cooler? Does anyone know if its quiet? I like to hear my games and not my fans.

Thanks!

I have a Twin Turbo model. Different but similiar.

The Twin Turbo works awesome on HD4850.

Accelero Xtreme 4870x2 looks very promising for decent air cooling.

Accelero Extreme are the best air coolers for videocards. There is no doubt that will help with your problem but be sure of one thing: It expels the hot air back into the case, thus if u have not good airflow could be a problem. Did you try adjusting the fan speed into CCC?

Good point about the hot air getting back into the case. I have an Antec P180 so maybe I will upgrade the 120mm fan in the back to pump all the hot air out.

Little Lizzard, how do I adjust the fan speed. Your refering the stock VGA cooler right?

leaving that fan and adding more to your case will be more beneficial than upgrading 1 fan. hum didn't know it was that case, can't really add more fans. and yea my friend has that case and it's one hot bitch temps wise. since i've bought my Apevia Jupiter-X case with 2 120mm back fans, i just won't buy a case that has 1 back fan lol. this thing has great air flow. have u taken your HD 4870x2 heatsink off and applied a TIM, like AS5 or MX-2. i did it to my 7800GTX and it lowered temps by like 10 celcius, but that was probly cause that paste was like kinda crusty round outside and almost like concrete it seemd, just a lil moist in center.

I just wanted to follow up and say how awesome the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 4870X2 is! I've had it installed for a few days and its very quiet and dropped my temps down a lot!

Here are my temps while gaming:

Accelero hd4870x2 60% fan speed (Dead silent).
Core 1: 46c core2: 44c

Initial impressions: whoa its huge. It didn't take that long to install (just the screws that hold the plate were a bastard because they have springs, you gotta REALLY push down on the screws).

Stock cooler idle 29% fan speed temp: core 1 51c core 2 46c
Accelero hd4870x2 29% fan speed: core 1 35c core 2 31c

Sound stock 39% is 2x LOUDER then accelero 100% fan speed. That's insane!
Ingame: going to test in a second

Ingame fan speed of 60% on accelero. It's so quiet I can ever hear my cpu fan on my true which I cant usually hear!

Stock 46% fan speed Left 4 dead (VERY loud stock fan, my biggest gripe was because it was so damn loud. very shader intensive, gives me high temps).

Core 1: 82c, core 2: 81c
VDDC: 92c 95c 95c

Accelero hd4870x2 60% fan speed (Dead silent).
Core 1: 46c core2: 44c
VDDC: 69c 70c 71c

Hmmm, now I'm really giving a thought to getting this. Do you know if it helps oc the card at all?

I can use RT to get the core to 815. Anything beyond that crashes the system. Memory is 950 and no more or I artifact. I think this is because my memio gets above 80C.

Whats the point of installing a fanless GPU cooler when you need to install 2 fans in the case to make it work? LOL I don't get it.

Uh what? There are 3 fans included on this cooler.

Cause it coolers a ton better with 1/3 the noise. Saw that frozen cpu had them in stock last night. Never done a video card before, but man those improvements are really tempting. Mine have been a ton better since I got moved into the HAF, but still........I wonder if I could do fanless in the HAF? :rockout:

It's not fanless and NO, fanless won't work. Or be my guest and pop that expensive card :ohwell:

 No thanks, she's been good to me.

Does the card now take up 3 slots with the cooler?
Did it heat up any of the other temp sensors in your system?

I'll probably jump on one just cause I saw one review on frozencpu.com said he has a HAF and his temps dropped to 27C.....under load!!! 19C idle!!! :twitch:

I'm all over that! Just need to get the coin together and say goodbye to loud and hot 4870x2. :nutkick:

All that would be left is to move to a 120 Extreme, or something like that, and my pc will be almost silent even while gaming.

Nice heatsink... Got to get one for myself...

Good :) Yep, 3 slots

Dunno how 4870x2 reacts to cooler temps, but GTX280 likes them, so much that cooler temp is better than raised voltage. It's more about getting you OC with lower sound & temps than stock cooler with stock clocks :)

I just got mine installed. But i stripped a screw on one of the cross brackets so the one has corners in and not 4 :(. What programs you use to change fan speed? Catalyst doesnt seem to do it, notice no noise changes.
