I just found out I can buy the following two options:
Core i7 975EE for 495$
Core i7 950 for 277.50$

And I have my fingers itchy....

Considering my i7 920 could be sold for around 250-300$ locally (Prices here are really expensive), either of the two look like mighty sweet deals.

If you were in my shoes, would you trade the 920 for the 950 ? Would you splurge on the 975EE ?

Question to ask yourself. What do you think you're going to get out of the 950 or 975 that you don't get out of the 920? The unlocked multi on the EE? Meh. The 920 has so much damn headroom that heat is what gets in the way, not BCLK. So, in my eyes anything beyond a 920 is wasting money and for e-peen only. However, if I had to make a choice b/t the two and just had money to waste I'd get the 975.

Well, trading to the 950 would probably cost me next to nothing, if anything. I just put my CPU up for sale for around 330$ locally (It costs slightly over 400$ new here), I assume it will sell for 300$, so in this case, I think the 950 is a no brainer. I am wondering about the 975EE though. I certainly have the money to burn and I do plan on watercooling the CPU in my main rig soon enough, so I have the 975EE itch too...

The 950 really has nothing going for it over the 920. Serious waste of money IMHO. At least the 975 lets you play around with unlocked multipliers for the hell of it. I'm really not giving you shit here. I just know that my i7 board and chip can handle over 220 BCLK. Even with my EK Supreme and TC 120.3, heat becomes an issue way before I max out on what my chip is capable of. But hey, if you want to spend your money on a chip, go for the 975. Honestly, I'd spend the money on some good WC gear before I'd buy a new chip. That's when you'll see your 920 shine.
