Hey is anyone planning on upgrading their card by xmas?

If so, please state what card you have and what your plans are to upgrade and why.

thanks

Yep, I have 2. 2 GTX 260 55nm Core 216's, upgrading for a new build. Going with a couple ATI 58x0.

I would think that dual 260's are sufficient, what are your reasons for going bigger?

i own two GTX260`s and i'm not planning any upgrade . Even with 1 i get decent performance in most of the games out there.

;) I am selling this rig and starting from scratch again.

There are things like DX11 coming out, that could make someone want to upgrade. Fortunately GTX 260's are cheap right now and are still great cards. No better time to buy one.

I bought a gtx 275 a month ago, had a 260. I have 5 trade up options with BFG for 200 series cards obv. but I'm not even close to sure if I want to add a 275 for SLI, upgrade to a 285/295 or start thinking about DX11..

I hear people talking about DX11 games/cards and just curious as to the number of people planning on getting the newest series when they come out. I know price will be the biggest deciding factor for most.

luckily for me I came back into PC gaming just a few months ago so prices were nice.

The last time I was gaming on a PC cs:s was new and $400 was the price for the 6800gt I think

Lol those were the days man.

I bought my GTX 260 card around 2-3 weeks ago and I am amazed at the power it gives me. My next upgrade will either be another one in Sli for fun or when good games are coming out using DX11 (not just one or two, a dozen or so). And until then I can still have "DX11" just not fully.
I think it is amazing how cheap these cards are going for now with the performance they give.
I am very pleased with my purchase :)

Im doing some upgrading now.
I have 2-GTX285's and have 2-GTX295's on the way.
Ran into a couple sweet deals so i went ahead and went for it.
So i have 2-GTX285'S for sale now.
<<<<<<<<Hardware Junkie!! Yea im hooked.

if I had just one GTX 260, instead of the dual, then I would upgrade either to the 5870 or get another 260 about now...

But there seems to be a lul in the amount of games released that can actually use all that power at my resolution, so I will probably be keeping this setup for another year or so.

Also the way that the release cycles have worked in the past was:

1) Uber expenisve high end card comes out...
2) competition's answer to uber expensive high end card comes out
3) all high-end variants drop in price
4) process improvement leads to "mainstream" card that takes on the performance of uber expensive card (i.e. 8800GT vs 8800GTX, GTX 275 vs GTX280) OR new version of high end (4890) comes out, thus dropping the price of the old 4870 1GB.
5) Announcement of next gen drops prices slightly as retailers try to clear shelves.

I try to wait till step 4... which is prolly another 8-10Mos from now (at least), You get the best deals around that time.

I went from a 260 to a 275 and noticed a significant gain paired with an e6600@ 3ghz.. Im about to get a quad that may or may not clock to 3.5-3.6 so I'm interested to see how much of a bottleneck my current cpu has been.

The only thing that bothers me is I can run UT3 maxxed out with vsync on and keep 58-60fps, but the batman AA demo hovers under 40fps. There is no better feeling than playing a game at a constant 60fps and when I can't it really bugs me. I know there are many variables but I just crave that sense of having a rig that can handle any game I wanna play.

dual 285's.. thats sick. I would like to see that for myself so Id have a contrast/comparison to what's it's like to have something "better".

going from dual 285s to 295's seem like something I'd do just for the hell of it, I can't imagine you actually "need" to upgrade

I think you'll experience some gains keeping your current GTX275 and overclocking your current CPU. I haven't seen any Q6600's that can't get above 3ghz. :ohwell:

you're like me then... EDIT: but you have a higher rez... I would either go with dual 285's or dual 4890's in cfx. :rockout:

I wouldnt buy another 275 unless it was $150 or less.. because I would have to buy a new PSU also. I don't think I'm upgrading anything else afte rI get this q9450 installed and after cod:mw2 is installed and see how it runs.

would be sweet if they released a benchmark ap for that game, looking at the added physx Im concerned. the UT3 ageia physx maps run at 11fps on my rig :-(

I have GTX260 and its good until now ....... and I'll wait for DX11 hardware for next upgrade probably will go to the red side cause i think next gen Nvidia gonna be very pricey.

Damn and you're not even going to tell me:shadedshu

:D:D:roll::roll:

You know I want those 260's:rockout:

wish i can upgrade my 4830 to a 4890 or a 58xx but got no cash!!

I am not getting an upgrade until I get a game I can't run at acceptable settings/FPS

I hope to add another GTX285 and maybe another HD4890.

I have 3x GTX260 Sli on a 780i board as of now. I waited until 4 months ago to go with the GTX2xx series(when they became affordable). I will wait for the next generation to become affordable as well.

No plans at this point. I'm watching next-gen stuff, but if my card still runs modern games for the rest of the year, I see no true point in going next-gen. I don't see DX11 taking on strongly after next month, or towards the end of the year. When my card dissapoints at 1920x1080, then I'll look at what's out there. Besides I still have some OC headroom left when I need it.

:toast:

Gonna sell my current card (GTX280), then add about 100$ to buy a new one, hopefully, it will consume less power, and 10-15% faster.
