Replaced X1800XT with 7950GX2..the results...WOW!

well i prefer quality over FPS...as long as its over 30-50FPS all the time, then there is no lag, so you may as well get the nicer quality :D

I just upgraded to a 7950gx2 and the improvement over my x850xt pe was quite impressive.

we are talking over eighteen months hardware developement here thow with the 850 series.. it should have been impressive.. i wonder what the next eighteen months will bring.. ??

trog

LOL, i agree :o

yep, also think about the 18 months before the x850 and how great the x850 was compared to that

I upgraded from my 850xtpe to the 1800xt and the improvement was quite impressive and more than 3000 3D 2005 points. I actually beleive that when we look back in a few years time and landmark cards, whether it be for raw power or visual quality the 850 will be up there with the best of them, perhaps sat closely to the 9800 and not too far away from the 6800's.

just a question, is there any noticeable diferent in "games" between a x1800xt to a 7950?, you can't tell the diference between more than 45fps and more (for example 60fps)

unless u have a video cam

no not really, but the 7950 will last longer :p

Last longer as in many will remain on the shop shelves un-touched by human hand? or last longer because they have better genes lol!!

I feel that the X1K series cards are truly amazing, AVIVO, and great gaming.

I just ran through a set of pictures for friends and videos of my son after birth on our TV in the living room courtesey of a 30' S-Video cable. I compressed the videos to send to my parents, in just a few minutes, so they could see. My camera can connect and be a high resolution webcam. GTA, NFS, HL2, CS:S, etc..... all at 16X6 all high resolution 1280X1024 no lag.

- - and of course Largon had to drop his ounce of Conroe excuses.
Huh?
I never said anything about C2D.

Mongo,
You aware your GPU is starving for a X2 4400+ can't feed it fast enough?

Faster CPU would allow 1000 points more in 3DM06.
But what can I do if people interpret my post as Conroe promotion...

j/k

i would think it aswell that x2 is a great cpu it isn't bottlenecking anything, wich cpu would give a 1000pts in 3dmarks besides a c2d?

Bah I never said it was bad thing to say, really... A Conroe is a great upgrade, but a 7950 is definately a powerful card no matter what AMD or INTEL, the difference it will make against most other GFX cards is quite interesting. If you add in a conroe on top, it may just get up to that insanely fast configs. But I would rather buy a X1950XTX and have a single card doing a good job, and would think about keeping that for long time.

And overclocking an AMD X2 4400+ to 2.8ghz would also be interesting, wouldn't you agree?

My last cpu was a 4200 Manchester x2 & 2.8Gig and with my 1800xt got 4992 points in 3D Mark 2006 but in 3D Mark 2005 got 9985, less than I get from the 4000+ @ 3 Gig which is why I sold the 4200 x2 for £75 more than I paid for it and bought this, I mostly game and what I have now at the moment is best suited to that but I am going Conroe in the new year and keeping my trusty 1800xt till DX10 + 3 months or it dies.

well i have a decent clocked system in 3dmark 03 i get 31580 in 05 i get 13664 and in 06 i get 7233 Aquamark dunt support our card it plays shit

LOL, how about some f.e.a.r benchmarks or doom3?

fuck a bunch of bullshit 3dmark05/06 bullshit.

fake ass benchmark you cant compare 2 cards performance using 3dmark.

7950 kicks ass

149 fps in fear with 8xS AA and 16AF
Doom 3 constant 60fps with same settings
OBLIVION 35 minimum!!!!!! 90 max

I have totally overclocked it tho!

owning x1800xt, then gx2, and now x1900xt i guess i can put in my input...to make the long story short, gx2 had amazing framerates, but when i switched back to ati i felt like i have bouhgt a new monitor...the IQ is so much better...also the tv out on my phillips with hdmi input looked all buggy on nvidia

X1800XT: 3DMark05: 9184 (38.2,28.0,46.3)
7950GX2: 3DMark05: 11513 (41.1, 32.9, 72.1)

X1800XT: 3DMark06: 4486 (1830, 1798, 1692)
7950GX2: 3DMark06: 7378 (3443, 3401, 1659)

ATI Driver: Catalyst 6.8
Nvidia Driver: 91.47
Ran graphics cards stock w/o overclocking for these tests.
Motherboard: Abit Fatal1ty A8N-Sli (Not on the 7950 compatability list)
CPU: Athlon X2 4400+ Socket 939
2GB Corsair Memory
700 Watt OCZ Gamestream

Noticeable improvement when playing Call Of Duty 2, Half Life 2, and Age of Empires 3. Half Life 2: Lost Coast with the 7950 is incredible.....especially when walking through water.
Damn !! wish I was rich
