Hey guys.

I use my mic almost every day without any problems.

I am useing Vista ultimate 32-bit and I have never had any issues with my mic.

Suddenly. I wake up and my mic is not working...I tried using my brothers and that did'nt help either so I know it's not the mic itself.

So what in the hell has happened?? I did'nt even install anything??
Just...stopped working????

What games do you play?

usb or mic jac?

Right now I am playing Risen.

I hardly think that's the problem???

Also, it's not USB. I got an Auzentech Prelude X-fi and have my mic hooked to that as well as my speakers.

Any suggestions??

I have just tried enabling the HD realtek audio from the BIOS and tried using the mic from that instead of my sound card. Still it did'nt work. I tried using 2 different mics too and they both do not work.

So is this a software conflict or some driver or what??

Disable the onboard in the bios again. Uninstall all previous sound drivers and install the latest drivers. Make sure Windows Update doesn't automatically install anything else.

Yep I have done that and it appears as if nothing changed at all.

I am just going to run AVAST scanner and see if I have some kind of virus or something.
Hope it solves my problem.

One important step, try your mic with a different computer.

I know this sounds daft, but have you made sure its plugged in correctly? Tried unplugging it, restarting then plugging it back in when windows is active?

have you made sure your soundcards mic is the one chosen in windows sound settings? it wont matter how many mics you test, if its defaulting to something else (like a digital input)

also, make sure its not set to mute/zero volume.

Thanks for the suggestions but ive already tried everything you guys has said.
In the audio control panal under recording it shows the mic is default with Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1. Also it's at 100% with mic boost +20dB Boost on.
Also set to 2 channel, 16-bit, 48000 Hz DVD Qyality. it had no effect if I turn it down or set it as 24-bit. Does nothing!

I have tried it on my brothers computer and of course, works perfectly fine.
His also works..so I tried it in my pc and it did'nt work.

So I do know it's not hardware. It must be something else.

screenshots of the recording menu, please :) (and any relevant submenus)

once done there, screenshot the soundcard software too please.

(if you arent aware, TPU-capture will make this a lot easier - use alt-printscreen and then click and drag to highlight want you want uploaded)

Ok thanks for that!
I am not sure if I am using this TPU capture right!! anyway!!

When you said show me the software for auzentech prelude. What am I meant to actually show you???

anything related to recording.
as for TPU capture, use the ones with the "img" tags, they show up without needing to click the links. (if you edit your current post you will see tags, you can swap the letters URL...levant really. nothing mic/recording related.

I asked because I wanted to know if there were any games you play or have played that use Safe Disc. If so look in it's directory to see if you see a program called DIAG.exe. If so run that program. A popup screen will appear showing various information. Let it runs its course. Once completed see if your mic starts working again.

There we go!!

Also there is no DIAG file in the folders :(

the only thing that seems odd, is that its showing a yellow jack in the last picture - are you sure thats the right place? normally its pink

Well Mussels your right, it should be pink..but why is it yellow???
It's in the same hole as it has been for a year since I have owned this sound card.

But..that is odd..it's yellow when it clearly used to be pink.... what is going on :o

try plugging the mic into the yellow port, and i bet it works.

somehow the auto sensing has merely gotten your ports confused - its one of the reason i dislike the modern 'auto sensing' jacks on HD soundcards

Seriously??
I really should have tried that!
I did'nt realise it was auto sensed.... weird!

Anyway!! I will check it out!! thanks for pointing that out!!
I will post in a few hours once I get a chance to use it! hope it works :)

Sadly nothing change :(

Could it be my PCI slot?? ive only got the one there..so I cant test that????

Or maybe...reformatting and re-installing vista??? would that work?

It probably would fix it if you reformat but that's so drastic that it should only be used as a last resort. Are there any games that you play or played that might use safedisc (BF2, etc)?
