5770 is a very respectable card. If you are not gaming much, then its probably good enough for you. However, I am not too sure how useful it is when you use it for Video editing and photoshop.

A 5770 sounds about right for your usage, maybe even a 5750 would be adequate? the 4870 would use more power and be on the same level as the 5770, so that's ruled out.
As far as the 58xx, there's no such thing as overkill ;)

If your worried about powerbills etc, Id say a 5770 Would be Ideal for you, if You want Raw Power go with a 5870 or 5850. Otherwise Look at FireGL boards

5850 for $320 with a copy of Dirt 2. I was going to get a 5770 but 128 bit ram deterred my interest.

Other than decent performance my main concern is keeping the energy consumption low and keeping the fan noise to a minimum especially when idle.

How much is it for a Non OC part? Bear in mind look at clock rates of GPU and ram.
