Hey guys, how are things over here? Long time no see, as some of you know I'm serving in the army so I kinda lost touch of everything a bit. I'm still around on GN occasionally tho.

Well, back to topic. I have been promoted from bacteria to worm, so I landed in the specialist training somehow. Well, its pretty damn chill so far. Far too much time, no real hard work, its the exact opposite of being a recruit. NOW. I need a laptop to pass the time somehow. Because we have the choice of either smoke a cigarette, stare at the wall, or do pushups. You can get fed up by cigarettes, and also a pushup limit will be reached. So yeah.

I was looking at the Asus N61JQ-JX014Z..

Nifty thing, suits my needs, its only 17" but thats of no real concern. I like the BluRay drive and the 5730, but thats also why I open this thread. You see my knowledge about notebooks is somewhat limited. Couple that with 7 weeks away from TPU and what goes on in the world of transistors and yeah...

My question: Is it a good thing and worth its 2000 bucks I'd have to pay.
There will be light gaming, Battlefield or so. Mostly it'll hold my music and movies tho.

dont you get a discount if your in the army??

Not looking for a ruggadized system? I don't know I'd ever call a laptop "good" unless it at least passes the MIL STD 810G standard. I have a Systemax SR-15 (based on the 15" Durabook). It's two years old and still looks like new. Most laptops and all their cheap plastic looks like crap after one year from regular use.

I can ride the trains for free. Thats about it.

A 2000 dollar lappy for this? Damn.

You see, I like to buy stuff that holds over the years. Also, I plan on selling it again after the military. Just iignore the price, I just want to know if it is a good machine.

It will sit on a table all day. I won't take it to the field you know :p

So is it a good thing or not then. From glancing at it I'd say yes, but some opinions would be nice.
