System Name mine

specs of it are this:

Q6600 @ stock speeds (gonna oc to 3ghz+ when i get a better cooler)
XFX 680i SLI LT motherboard
2gb OCZ 800mhz ram
2x 9600GT in SLI
500w jeantech PSU
19" moniter.
winXP as my gfs lil bro dont care about DX10/11 etc and i find XP to be a solid OS still

how would this compare to the latest (fps) games? its a budget gamer..

Dx9 it will do fine especially on a 19". You'll be able to play everything out there, maybe might have to turn the settings to medium on Crysis and Metro 2033, Clearsky, but overall thats a solid machine.

Yep. The computer will be able to handle most games maxed out. A single 9600GT is still really good, being able to play games like Crysis on high, Dirt 2 on maxed out on 1440x900 res. So having 2 9600GTs you should be able to play games like Crysis on very high at that resolution without AA.

That computer will be able to play Crysis almost on very high. As my old "single" 9600GT handled Crysis on high on my C2D E7500 with 2GB ram but without AA of course.

EDIT: I didn't see Win XP so he'll be able to play Crysis on high only.

if my mobo supported win7 i woulda installed that >.<..i got both the 9600 for £10 so..

thats definitely a nice rig... i would clock those suckers up - they would definitely go toe to toe with a gtx260 at stock, especially OC'd at something like 1680x1050 and below.

and from a cursory glance online it looks like that mobo would support 7.

is that Q a B3 or G0?

its a G0 i believe..ill go look now..i had 7 on it but the ethernet wouldnt register at all..kept getting limited or no connectivity

If you do try Vista or Win7 be warned, there are TONS of issues that are still unresolved with Nvidia NICs under both OS's, it's extremely aggravating to say the least.

G0, good deal.

yeah that should hit 3Ghz with minimal voltage. I would go for 3.33Ghz at least - that will open up some headroom for the 9600's. Its a nice rig. See if you can salvage/buy an NIC used for cheap. Might even have one laying around. That could be a solution to the w7 shenanigans.

It should play games realtively well, I would advise not using XP because the support for it with most driver applications/software has been dropped for the most part. Also 2 GBs is the bare minimum of ram these days.

Have you bought the components yet? These components are a bit "old" for a new build.

new cooler needed 1st before any oc is done lol. it is a nice computer..it came in a cheap gamer case which ive moded to look less cheap :P

considering i posted a SS of the CPU-Z program youd guess i already have the computer up n running? it might be an old build but for a 12 year old its amazing and it can still kick some games ass.

lol 12 year old? maybe 3 years old. Unless it ages in dog years.

The Q6600 were beats when they came out!

I think he means the person its for is 12 years old. lol.

I wish I had something like that when i was 12. :D .

That kid is never leaving his room lol.

you and me both mate....i sprayed the interior and everything..

EDIT, he has a choice of this or a PS3 so..i may end up keeping it for myself yet :D

the only upgrades I can see is a better cooler (a Hyper 212+ is cheap and should do great), and an extra 2gigs of RAM. Of course, with a better cooler, a nice OC can be done! 3.2-3.33ghz is what I suggest, you don't really need more. Then you convince the guy to choose a ps3 and keep a nice rig to yourself! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!

But seriously, he'll enjoy the rig for sure :) but is he a bit computer intelligent? because most 12yo would have more fun on a ps3. When I was 12 though, I would have preferred a gaming rig over a console anyday :D

he helped me build this and he really enjoyed it..so..hes getting into pc..im secretly hoping he chooses a PS3 so i can keep it tho...shhh..dont tell no one ;) lol!

I still think 99% of 12yo would have more fun on a ps3, provided he gets enough games xD

at 12 would have loved a computer like this..bragging rights ftw or wat..

Yeah at 12 i was in the grips of brutal quake/hexen II/Quake 2 addictions. I tried to OC my diamont Stealth 2000 or somthing like that and blew up my 15" CRT somehow, I dont think they were related but my dad kicked my ass anyways.

when i was 12 i had a AMD 4000+ socket 939 with 1 gig ram and a 6800ultra ...ahh memories lol!
