This IS my first Nvidia card I am not joking.

Where is the control panel like CCC for ATI?

I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from nvidias website the 257.21s

However the only thing I see under the start menu is all this 3D vision crap and no nvidia control panel?

WELL I got into the Nvidia control panel but I cant find anything to change the Fan speed or anything like that. Also It looks like there is no way to change Clock speeds with the Nvidia control panel like there was in CCC.

Right click desktop, Nvidia control Panel is a no go?

OK now I got it!

I couldn't find it.:slap:

I never thought to check right click.

Thank you.:toast:

East coast where did you go???

What default settings did you need?

You can also access it by going to the standard Windows Control Panel, just FYI.:toast:

The standard drivers do not come with overclocking and fan control by default.

Download an use MSI Afterburner or eVGA Precision for all your overclocking and fan control needs. I've found MSI Afterburner works best with my GTX470, you can download it here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Afterburner-1.6.0-Beta-6-download-2559.html

There are also nvidia system tools to add OC functionality to the nvidia control panel itself.

So wait, ATI cards support overclocking, fan control, monitor control, video control, 3D control, audio device all in one installation, and for Nvidia you need to use other tools, and the drivers are almost the same size and people complain?

Please don't derail my thread/

I have an EVGA card would the EVGA precision tools work better? Or does it not matter? I'll Download both and see.

should I bother with Nvidia system tools?

thanks for this i have been having the same issues but didnt start a new thread. glad you did :)

I would use Precision, just because I have used it for so long and it works so well.

Hat would say to use another program (can't remember the name) to change the fan speed profile permanently instead of using Precisions- Apply @ Windows Startup option, but again I haven't had an issue with fan speed or OC settings being applied.

I wouldn't mess with Nvidia Sys tools, its detailed but not necessary.

Your Evga 480 can benefit from Msi Afterburner and Eleet which both have voltage controls.

Evga Precision has the nice 470/480 layout and I use it to monitor temps only.

Nvidia Control panel is very detailed for those that question its use.

EVGA precision wont let me change core clocks.

And after burner and Precision both wont let me change voltage at all.

Yeah, but just like the built in ATi Overdrive, it sucks...

The nVidia installation includes everything you listed minus fan control and overclocking, and quite frankly ATi Overdrive sucks, and to do any kind of decent overclocking and actual good fan control(i.e. more than just setting a single fan speed and leaving it at that, which is completely idiotic) you need seperate tools anyway.

Of course the nVidia drivers actually still support cards all the way back to 2004, the ATi drivers don't support anything older than 3 years ago...so yeah, there is a reason the nVidia driver is just as big. Oh, and then there is the ability to set and save custom rendering settings for each individual game... I've been begging for that for years from ATi.

I still use MSI Afterburner on my eVGA GTX470. Though when I got the GTX470, eVGA precision didn't work properly with it, so I used Afterburner. They are so similar it doesn't really matter to me, after all they are both based of Rivatuner and both made by UnWinder.

EVGA precision wont let me change core clocks.

Not sure about Precision, because I don't have it installed, but Afterburner requires that you go into the settings and enable "Unlock Voltage Control" and "Unlock Voltage Monitoring". The second one isn't necessary, but why not do it while you are in there.:D

I actaully do it to lower the voltage right now, because the card is totally stable undervolted, and it is summer and gets hot as hell in the room my computers are in.

You also want to make sure you are using 1.6.0 Beta 6.

A) Make sure you uise the latest version
B) You'l need to go to Settings and checkmark the Overvolt option.

Evga precision should overclock just fine, no voltage control though.

Have you checked out Eleet? I havn't seen the voltage tweek options yet.

Yeah I just checked it out, it does suck!

General opinion is Afterburner is best.

The customizable Fan Speed Graph of Afterburner is unique and wonderfull. :)

I went with after burner

Push it to 800 core, and 2000 mems. Youll see a performance increase
