Well my 7 install is on a partitioned space of 30gb well after installing some updates and setting up page file and deleting hibernate file it would be around 17 - 16 gb.

After a while after running windows update and it failed and attempted to run it a few more times my C: drive became 900+mb only?!?

How do I recover that space? I ran ESS nod Scan no viruses found

Help please :'c

Seems it may be related to eset

Lemme take a look :) Thanks for the quick reply

I don't have Threat Sense enabled on my ESS :c what else could there be? I just ran windows update that failed a dozen times and then it ate up my hdd space :c

Ok, will do. This is the 2nd time it has happened, and I don't want to format again!!! I've just reformatted due to the same error that happened before.. (Windows update failing and then there no more free space)

Ok so I have used a different program but does the exact functions the problem is recycle bin

but when I open it there's nothing there!!!!

A friend had this happen on a 650gig drive or was it 750 dont remeber but he had nothing installed and lost all his space, It turned out that the pc somehow tryed to backup the hardrive and used all of it.

Try a serch for a file around the size of your missing space and see if anything pops up, Hopefully thats what the prob is, If this is the case then you should be able to delete the file and get your space back.

$Recycle bin is at fault

In my desktop the recycle bin folder is empty, how come it's eating huge chunk of my system drive :c help please

Not sure if you have tryed this but right click the bin, set space needed for deleted files to 0 and see if that does anything.

It could be an error in the registry to wich is making the pc thing the bin is full.

OOO also try CCleaner it has some options for the bin to i think, I will just check and edit this post.

Yup it has a clean option for the bin so might be worth a try, Hopefully it will force clean what ever is hiding :D.

Good luck getting it sorted.

You can uses WinDirStat to browse the folder and manually delete the file(s) in question.

I've also used that but It won't let the files be deleted.. It says access denied! :banghead:

Right click the $Recycle.bin folder > Properties > Security Tab > Highlight Users > Edit > and Check Allow Full Control.

Then all i can sugest is use windows serch and look for any files around the size of your missing space, forget other programs as they might just be reporting things wrong.

If you see any files say 15gig in size then i would personly say thats the problem.

If that don't work then im sorry but im out of ideas.

Right click the $Recycle.bin folder > Properties > Security Tab > Highlight Users > Edit > and Check Allow Full Control.

Yep this way but download and use this reg file it will add a option in the right click menu alot faster :)

Take Ownership

Is it possible that its in the recycle bin of another profile? profiles are located at C:/users
Good luck.

Open up an elevated command prompt and type:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

You may have to turn off UAC. This should delete it, or failing that get yourself a live CD like Ultimate Boot Disk and use that to delete the in.

Well strange as it may seem, I've ran windows 7 managers Junk File cleaner and sent it to recycle bin. Ran Crap cleaner but it was still there, then rebooted now I have a healthy breathable drive :D

Thanks all... It was related to windows update .net 3.5 rollback something. which kept failing on me for non- us resident. I downloaded the 2 patches manually and now windows is updated and the space eating tmp files are gone! xD Thanks everybody
