who has a x2 or single chip at 3ghz?very interested as i have a single core over 3ghz and i am thinking of getting a x2 939 but only if i can get it over 3ghz otherwise i may go intel!
plus i want to see if there is much difference between a x2 3800 and a x2 4800

fire away:respect:

well ive got my 2.0ghz x2 up to 2.6 so im certain that there is a x2 out there with a faster stock speed that will hit 3

Grab an Opteron 165. Newegg got some good batches of it right now.

I had my Venice 3000+ @3200 MHz!! But that was on a custom phase change cooler...

But my DFI Ultra-D helped a lot, I ran it at 8x400!!!! :toast: :toast:

I'm also pretty certain yours has more in it.

I got 2.85Ghz out of my X2, that was keeping my RAM @ 1:1, might have went further but wanted to keep my ram same speed.

I have it at 2.65 atm see pic

I have an Opteron 148 CABYE that can do 3GHz. I've actually had it up to around 3.15GHz under water, but I never tested it's stability there. 3.0GHz is Prime stable for over 8 hours.

Unfortunately, if you're wanting to go higher you will need to go with water or phase change. Dual cores also tend to be less stable at higher clocks, considering that you have to run at the max stable OC for the slower core. And for your question about the 3800 vs. the 4800, usually most chips overclock to around the same speed ramge. If you buy the faster chip, you will get about the same total MHz, but you will have a greater range of multipliers to do it with.

I had a 165 Opteron (2 of them actually) that would run 3.1GHz @ 1.45V on very good air. They were CCBWE 0550 UPMWs and were phenominal overclockers. I made a HUGE mistake selling them and getting a C2D. Not real speed increases in real world use.

no1 got a x2 at 3ghz then?

the 165 and up versions of the Opteron are dual core. The Opterons are said to have a better memory controller than the A64's, which helps in better overclocks. If you want to buy a dual core S939 CPU, go with the Opteron 165 from Newegg. Good stepping, low price, and decent OC's.

Same memory controller, different silicon (Opteron has better grade Silicon). I have seen quite a few X2's over 3GHz, but not nearly as many as Opterons.

i had my above 3gz and above (just had to dump the multi up one, but bf2/2142 did not like it).

My Opteron 165 this week!

Mine does 3ghz stock Vcore.

Its an E6 3700+. 939 San Diego.

What's E6? Never heard of it before

Search for CCBBE on ebay. Those steppings of Opty 165's could do 3ghz quite easily. It'll probably run you roughly $180. This is more than what it costs for an Opty 165 on Newegg, but this way you are guaranteed a good stepping.

I've been running my Opty 146 at 3ghz 1.45v for a little over a year now.

Is your C2D overclocked? When you say "real world use" does this include gaming? If so I may not upgrade to AM2 or C2D; I may just get a CCBBE Opty 165.

Major revision.

Sorry I forgot about that. I don't normally see the revision listed up front like that, so I thought it was something else. last I saw (months ago mind you) the newer revisions weren't OC'ing as well as the older ones. Maybe it was just the 3000+...

I can only get upto 2.860ghz kinda stable.

checked out ebay and its cheap as anything about the same price as a x2 3800 with 200mhz less but by the looks of things better overclocking,

if i can get get 3ghz out of one then im gonna go for that i rekon, i have 1,55v to play with is that gonna be ok?

plus how much do u rekon i would get for my sandy, shes only about 7months old?!and a good overclocker
