Hello, I just bought a Hewlett Packard Pavilion m7650n. I got a good deal on it. It's basically a media computer but it has enough RAM and a good enough processor to play games. However, the integrated graphics absolutely suck. I can't even play counter-strike on it.

So I'm trying to find out what type of video card I need to buy. I want to spend around $100 if that's possible. Please help, thanks.

Im assuming that new pc of yours has a PCI Express X16 slot in it. For $100 bucks you could look at buying a used on from someone on here, or you could try these:

I like the X800 GTOs and PRos and the 7600GS. They have an X1650PRo that is nice and Im sure can be modded to something better. Hope this helps.

if you have AGP then there are plenty of cards out there around that price range...just read all the specs and avoid cards that have only 128bit...the 1600pro is 256mb/128bit...whereas the x850pro has 256mb/256bit...

you will loose only sm3 and hdr with the x8xx line but if you buy a x1600 the sm3 and hdr can slow your fps and make them pointless to have...

i have said this and many agree with me, in AGP the x8xx pro and gto line are your best bang for your buck...they usually can be modded to the higher end versions of those cards without any more money out of pocket..

If you have pcix i would go with the x1800gto...thing is they go for about $30-$50 more then what you want to spend..but that is well worth it...the clocks are stock at 500/500 but with a little help from us at tpu you could get 700/700 instead..again without spending any more...:rockout:

How do I find out if it has AGP or PCI-E?

you have to look inside the case to find out....here are pics of each for you...

agp

pcix

you can see the breaker in the slots are in diff spots.on the pcix its more towards the front and on the agp its further towards the back....and the pcix is a little longer and usually has the pcix 1x slots above and/or below it...

you may need to upgrade your power supply, however you may no if you remove the modem from the system.

Thanks Cybie. That Pro does seem pretty awesome. Only thing is, most of those cards have a 128 bit memory ring bus. The X8XX series is nice too. But that X1650 Pro cAN probably be modded to X1800 stats.

x1800 stats?...you mean by the clocks right? cause if im not mistaken the x16xx line are most all 256mb/128bit and thats not really great....this is why i say the x8xx line..or even for a little more ($30) get the x1800gto...they have 256mb/256bit.....would be worth the extra cash...why go 3/4 of the way on a video card when all you need is a little more $$ ($30) to get something that is MUCH MUCH better ....:rockout:
