ATI X800XL Bake off

Well I have had a X800XL for about 4 years that hasn't worked. It just didn't even register when booting up. So I did a little bit of research about baking cards and decided just for the hell of it to try it out. Well much to my surprise it worked great. Now I have a decent card for an old Pentium I run in my spare bedroom. That was kind of cool I thought. :rockout:

I have one of those as well. Was a great card until one day I tried to change machines with it and nothing but rainbow colored lined vertically covered my screen. No matter what i tried reseating the card the old eraser trick etc nothing but the same.

Wonder if a good BBQ would work on it.

I preheated the oven to 390 and cooked it for 9 minutes.
Of course you have to take the heat sink and fan off first.
But that was simple.

TBH, I'm surprised the bake trick worked. Wow. Congratuations :toast:

I also had a faulty 800XL but luckily it went down in the warranty period and even more luckily I got a refund rather than a replacement.

X800XL's were notoriously dodgy. What model/brand was yours?

PS. I think the X800XL was AGP x8 only. Did pentium 1 chipset have AGP x8?
