Sims 3 Crashes (unless I downgrade to 9.12 OR play in Windowed Mode)

Blue Screen = hardware issue

Do the normal hardware routine:
-Linpack stress test
-FurMark
-memtestx86+

If the problem was the game, it would be producing xcpt files in the Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 directory

The game runs fine on Windows 7 64-bit so long as you got enough memory installed (3+ GiB) and your system is stable.

Well, ive never used crossfire, but im led to believe that CCC is the way to turn it on and off

Ran furmark and memtestx86 less than a week ago and everything was fine.
Just ran linpack on maximum stress right now, temps max were 67 degrees

I don't think this is the problem though - this isn't a particularly cpu/ram/gpu stressful game compared with what I play usually :ohwell:

Thats not true at all. I have gotten BSOD's from bum drivers in the past.

Sounds like there is only one way to resolve this issue judging by how much hassle it has been.

Reinstall.

Who knows what the issue is.
I can definitely say I have had issues with the EA updater as well.

I still have the game on my desktop but the game is so buggy that I stopped playing it.

Definitely try running Furmark again and let it run for at least half an hour and maybe an hour and keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

All I know for certain is that, if the game is not producing xcpt files, the game is not to blame. The game is simply exposing a weakness in your system.

I'm ready to bet this problem is related to the driver of my 5970.

I was using 10.10e when I started this thread. Now I installed 10.12 and the game won't even start at all. All I get is a black screen and a popup saying

Service initialization failed (0x065d0274)

Any clue which service is this referring to, or what are those numbers?

FYI, I can't run The Sims 3 or many other games on my 5870 at stock speeds (well, I can, but it will ultimately get serious issues). My 5870 is currently running at 5850 speeds (725/1000) and all problems go away (this is my third 5870 and second that exhibited the same issue).

Seeing as you have a 5890, I would recommend trying to reduce the clockspeeds temporarily and maybe try a different older driver (I'm running 10.11).

SneekyPeet pointed you to The Sims 3 Patch Downloader. Did you try it? Did it say your game was current (never trust the launcher)? If it is not current, it provides the links to download the necessary files to get it current. If that post is correct, that should fix the problem. It remains to be seen if that is the only problem though.

Also, do you have any mods installed for the game or is this a clean install?

If it is a clean install and the game is current, I would recommend uninstalling EA Download Manager from Programs and Features in the Control Panel. That service it is complaining about could be related to EADM. The game runs fine without EADM. You can get updates via the Patch Downloader above and the only other disadvantage is uploading/downloading stuff from EA (that stuff can be done manually, however). In any case, you can get the most recent version of EADM from here, if you want it. Make sure the game runs fine without it before installing it though.

10.12 Catalyst was a pain for me and my friend too! Hardly not installing properly and had issues like you have but not TS3, it was in DoW40k:Chaos Rising it same error about service.

I'm using 10.11 without any problems in The Sims 3 on Radeon HD 5870.

For the record, I consider drivers a hardware issue. Hardware can't work without functioning drivers and drivers can't work without functioning hardware. An application that does not specifically address the hardware (like The Sims 3) is incapable of producing BSODs--only exposing flaws in the driver and/or hardware which does trigger a BSOD.

Fuck it then if you wanna go that route then all errors are caused by the user for turning the computer on.

My daughter just bought the "Night Life" expansion for it and was playing without issues using 11.1. Before that she never had issues playing with 10.12 drivers installed and she did have the expansions,"Fast Lane", "High loft stuff", and "Ambitions".

And you are not running a 5xx series chip ether. 11.1a brings nothing new to the 5xxx series and not running driver sweeper is begging for additional problems.
