Upgrading to i7-875k and 8gb ddr3 1600 - what do you think??

It sure can.

No offense, but I'd like to see screenshots. My 760 cannot, been tested in several boards.

The Core i5-760 and Core i5-750 processors do not support DDR3-1600

Cache sizes and memory compatibility also haven’t changed, which means that the i5-760 officially supports a maximum memory strap of 10x, giving a maximum DDR3 memory frequency of 1,333MHz. Fortunately, this number is as relevant to overclockers as the warranty pamphlet in the box.

Hmmm...maybe you are right, but I swear the rig I just built allowed me to select 1600MHz at the stock BCLK. But I've already delivered that one to the customer and don't feel like ordering another without a buy just to make sure...:ohwell:

I'm telling ya, man, no 1600 @ 133bclk.

I wish...I can get 4.4ghz outta the 760, would love to match that with 2400 mem, but cannot due to missing divider.

All of the chips i see on HWbot doesn't have memory clocked over 1200Mhz so yes i would assume that you cannot go past 1333mhz?

Yeah, I was probably wrong, I must have already bumped up the BCLK when I looked at the memory speed.

Either way, I still stand by not wasting the money on a K processor. As it was already said, your raising the BCLK anway, so it doesn't matter.

thus why the K cpu's come in handy. though I still oc bclck. well I'm getting: 875k, 8gb ripjaw-X black kit, and possibly a maximus 3 formula or P55 classified

oc101: lets see some screenshots when its all done.

To everyone, I really enjoyed reading this post.

I am still curious about oc101's ram maxing out at 2GB with a memory shortage.

Any insights?

i made threads about it, general consenious was i had 2 little ram

Because he already has the rest of the setup, a simple processor upgrade is much easier than a whole plaform upgrade. Especially when upgrading to sandybridge wouldn't really give that much of a performance difference over an i7 800.

actually sb will have a significant advantage over the i7 800k's when you consider the price is the same and sb is faster per clock and can hit higher speeds. the only issue is the avialability of motherboards. otherwise sb make 100times more sense when coming from an 1156 dual core.

so sure the challenger and the charger may have similar performance when you put the top engines in them, but if you're coming from a caliber you might as well go for the challenger.

Challenger does look better (this coming from a charger owner)

i can grap a i7-870 or Xeon if ur board can oc well otherwise the i7-875K is the way to go, otherwise it's not worth to spend the money if u buying a brand new one.

SB makes not sense when you already have an 1156 platform unless you are planning on upgrading the motherboard too.

As for your example, yes it makes sense if he was coming from a caliber, but he isn't. He is coming from a v6 charger and just doing an engine swap.:toast:

not really as in this case the cpu swap with memory upgrade is costing as much as a sb motherboard and cpu swap. so it doesn't make as much sense.

and I'm pretty sure I've seen both cheaper

not 100% sure on the motherboard, but I know I WILL not go sandybridge, at least not 1155. so none of that is a viable option for me, I prefer bclck/fsb ovc compared to multi oc

1st post updated with new parts due to availablity as of NOW:

due to the i7-875k being virtually unavailable except for in package deals or at insane prices, I am going to grab a 870 for now till availablity gets better (if it does, some say yes some say no) and another 4gb of mushkin radioactive set (timings match mine, and they dont sell my redlines anymore) and an ASUS P7P55WS Super computer with the nf200 chip, for future tri sli

OH snap! I tottally spaced out ebay as a viable choice. I'll check it out, but any store that has them online they are at least 380/400 and thats like 60 more then normal screw that.

so looks like it will be an 870 p7p55 ws supercomputer, a 6gig kit of ram (only using 2 sticks the other is needed for a seperate dedicated cruncher. and thats it for now, main reason I didnt get the 875k is I like to order all from one place and no estore has them in stock at a reasonable price, the reason I like to order from one place is I do overnight shipping I hate waiting for shit especially getting half my order from one place and waiting for the rest due to ebay shippers taking their sweet ass time. yeah as I said im super impatient lol

875k and another 4gb of ddr3 ordered, dont think I'll do a motherboard though, maybe in a month after selling hardware, then it will be the evga p55 classified. but till then /thread

i cant close the thread will a mod please do so
