Hello. I have gotten a laptop with mobility radeon HD 5850 at christmas with switchable graphics ability to intel HD graphics (for lower battery consumption). Now my brother found a good site, where my GPU can do workunits for cash, since my GPU supports OpenCL. When i followed this tutorial to enable openCL, http://www.geeks3d.com/20091221/how-to-enable-opencl-support-on-nvidia-and-amd-platforms/ then it recognized my I5 CPU as a OpenCL unit, but not the HD 5850. Also found this little hotfixie for 10.12 (http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/ATICatalyst912Hotfix.aspx), which i couldnt install due to site mainetance ( site has been on mainetance for already like 12 hours, is this normal?:( )

Also made a picture of the situation :/

Can anyone please help?

a few tips

1. use techpowerup.org for the image hosting - its a ton faster.

2. use GPU-Z to determine if your video card has openCL drivers/capability

3. not all the AMD drivers support openCL by default. its a seperate download on their website.

I checked, my card supports OpenCL. I checked it a long time ago.
I have tried downloading OpenCL driver in separate, it even warned me while installing, that my drivers don't support OpenCL. How they do not, when i have latest drivers and my card supports OpenCL?

your card supports it, but you havent said what drivers you've on. not all DRIVERS support it, is what i said above.

11.1 is the latest out, you should be installing that.

I have installed tons of setups from game.amd.com yesterday. Neither of these worked.

Remove all old drivers then install 11.1 then try installing this over the top.

Not sure what version of windows your on so you might need to choose the 32bit download instead. If this don't work then pass no idea but maybe its because its a laptop GPU and not desktop.

All i can tell you is all this works fine on my HD5750 but its a desktop GPU.

It would also help if you filled out your full system specs.

There is also stuff here that might be usefull, maybe i even installed something from this page but can't remember.

Good luck getting it sorted and welcome to techpowerup.

App runs fine for me, getting a peak of about 0.82 WUph and min of 6.5 WUph.

Let me know what you get when it's upn and running.

I can't myself trouble shoot for you at the moment as I don't know enough to comment just yet.

Going to try it now. I am definetly not choosing X86 arhitecture setup, when i have 64-bit laptop.
Also the other link you provided, i know. Stream kit is required. Also, it has been tested on this card that it works, just i can't get it running.
Edit:
Specs of PC.
Acer Aspire 7745G
Intel Core I5-460M 2.53GHZ processor
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5850 1024MB DDR3 (Switchable option to Intel HD for lower power consumption)
4GB DDR3 1333MHZ ram
500GB 5400RPM HDD

Could the problem be that the laptop has intel graphics to and for some reason its not detecting the ati card in the program you want to use.

The laptop is using ATI by default, just when i press a button, it goes over to intel.
By the way, update with no progress. I am going for a system restore, because neither of the big setups installed CCC2 for me and aero isn't coming back, display is wrong and stuff like that.
If anyone has ideas, shoot.

I had a problem with aero on a friends pc the other day after reinstalling windows 7 and drivers, I fixed this by changing the background picture and aero started working again lol might be worth a try.

Can you run the GPU openCL demos in GPU caps viewer?

Another question i should have asked is can you install the desktop version of the drivers or does it moan about your GPU being a laptop GPU? As for CCC2 your not missing much to be honest.

@pantherx12
No i can't, it says openCL is not supported on this platform.
@animal007uk
There aren't no "desktop" or "laptop" drivers. There are Drivers for specific OS, as listed on game.amd.com
With CCC2 i am missing aero, my performance, switchable graphics.

There are mobilty drivers for the H5xxx cards for laptops on AMD/ATI site aswell, Here is what i mean.

This page is totaly seperate from the one i use for my desktop drivers.

If i also understand you right the CCC2 is causing you problems? if so you don't need it anyway as your not missing much in how it works or looks.

Woa! 10+ find! Thanks. I'll surely try out.

No worries that link is kinda hidden under netbooks rather than laptops although i class them as the same thing personly.

Goina sound stupid, but has system been restarted since doing this?

I know Open CL didn't work with my card until after a restart.

i have restarted system when the ATI wizards requested me to.

No freaken clue then. I'm going to have to wait to see how this is resolved.

I've had issues like this before but can't remember how I fixed them, or if I even fixed them.

Think may of just randomly started working one day.

Im telling you, ive never had this kind of mess with my brother's desktop GTX 260. Nvidia's drivers are much more reliable than ATI's... I remember how much mess i had with my old X1650 pro desktop and stuff.... Nvidia is quick and simple, ati always needs to make people take off 1 day and struggle with getting all to work

@animal007uk
I tried installing it on the current drivers (which should be also possible, should upgrade current drivers), but the 1meg file catalyst suite gave me an error.

And when i tried to install catalyst, i checked the items list with "custom" option. Everything was installed and up to date.

well i just tried this now myself - updated to 11.1, installed seperate OCL application and ran the program - without rebooting, and it all worked fine.

oh and i was serious when i said use techpowerup.org for the image hosting, it takes over a minute for your images to load.

Sorry for offtopic. For me it takes just a few seconds... Maybe that's because techpowerup is located near you? Techpowerup feels a bit slow for me, upload.ee is very fast site for uploads.
What card you tried on?

@Aloke i've sent you a pm
