SilverStone to Release Nightjar 500W Silent PSU Later This Week

Okay Silverstone, you now have me confused.

From March 19, 2007:
http://www.pcworld.fr/2007/03/19/cebit-alim-fanless-silverstone/274281/

And the 80Plus report (for the 2011 version) shows Silver compliancy, not Gold (80Plus PDF currently unavailable so here's a Google cache).

I think you'll find, seeing as it's 80+ Gold certified, the absolute worst case scenario is 55W of heat....

Looking at the results of the 80Plus report, that number could actually be ~75W (as it could be for any 80Plus Gold 500W PSU).

Comparable products to consider:
Kingwin Lazer Platinum Series LZP-550
Kingwin Stryker STR-500

The LZP-550 is based on Superflower's unfortunately named "Golden King" 550W, but I've seen neither the Superflower nor other comparables like the Huntkey X7 500W for sale anywhere.

$210 for a 500 watt is a good price ?

I like the fanless psu concept, but the prices are to much. I would just buy an oversized psu that has a quiet variable speed fan and use it, it might make some noise but probably not much.

I'd bet money it will be just about $130 (give or take a few dollars) in the US.

And I think this is great for HTPC/home servers. I'd get one.

time for those 0 decibel builds :D

I would prefer say a 600rpm 12-14cm fan inside of it. Not only will it run cooler but it will also move away air from inside the case from other components (well depending on in which case it is placed in).

Putting a fan on it might help in other ways too. Within a certain range, PSUs typically operate more efficiently when they are running cooler.
