Crytek provided a FREE UPGRADE and everyone is crying and butt hurt their rig can't run it. Thats all this is about.

a) not free. it was promised as part of the game. unless you read press statements directly after release, you thought it was included. most people do not read press statements.

b) rigs run it fine. it is underwhelming. it's not about it being elaborate scenes requiring massive amounts of power to render. it's about crytek designing scenes in an un-optimized fashion. it's about solid blocks having more polygons than the head of your average npc, without any visual benefit derived.

If the writer of this article could run this game maxed out and get a massive e-peen boner we wouldn't even know about the underground water. But he went all emo......over a free upgrade.

this is just you continuing your already over-extended argument. as if a game reviewer isn't likely to have a top of the line rig that crushes anything out. mine can do that, and it's years old.

you take your base understanding and gut instinct and claim "that's all this is about" when you haven't even touched on "what this is about" for 99% of people.

so how is your summation derived from fact while the rest of us are left only with opinions?

Its not in the EULA so it has no legal bearing. Also if someone doesnt read a press statment its not Cryteks fault. Its the users fault. Read the fine print. For 30 years games have been sold "As is" why would you assume Crysis 2 would be any different?

And they didn't charge you for it ether. It didn't add any gameplay elements or plot. It was a FREE upgrade. Nothing more. Nothing less. Doesn't matter how they did it. Optimized or not. They gave it to you. End of story. Don't like it? Don't use it.

Fact: They delivered.
Fact: They didn't have to.
Fact: Its free.
Fact: No ground to complain when something is free.

I'm not upset at all because it chokes my card. I'm upset because it's such a waste of polygons that could have been used on other objects to choke my card. The aliens still look like crap, and they could have easily taken the polygons from the ever present ocean to do something about that.

The concrete slabs look exactly the same, except that they have a handle now. A billion more polygons and the only noticeable difference is a handle? It really is a waste.

I'm appreciative of the fact that it was free, but they really put no effort in to it.

Example: Someone gives out free cars and advertises them to run great, but when you drive it, it blows up and nearly kills you. It was free though so you shouldn't complain or criticize it!

Example 2: You buy a car and the manufacturer offers a free performance upgrade. Performance upgrade causes the car to explode and kills your kids in the back of the car. Not the manufacturer's fault. You didn't pay for it so it's not their fault it didn't blow up.

Example 3: Crytek produces a patch that says it will make the graphics super advanced DX11 and it turns out to be poorly coded and crappy. However, you should be happy they gave you anything at all so shut up and don't complain about it. Same thing...

The car in your analogy did run great. It used cheap tires but they still work and were free. Right to complain? No. Crytek promised you a visual upgrade. They delivered. Boo hoo.

As for the coding end Benetanegia already proved you wrong on that.
