Is my graphics card broken?

Thanks for your advice. Would your suggestion of a larger PSU upgrade be on the basis that a more powerful GPU should then be used instead of the HD5670?

Not necessarily, when you consider your existing PSU and it's rating, factor in efficiency and you won't have a great deal of headroom for overclocking both the CPU and GPU, at least with a PSU boost you can overclock the hell out of both, that way you will get value for money, necessary if you are forking out for the PSU.

If only it ran Fifa 12 smoothly on high graphics... it's so jerky.

Would a 10% GPU overclock and a decent CPU overclock help here?

Fifa 12 on pc has some lil problems, not game breaking but sometimes you get some lag. Try setting MSAA to a lower level, it might help you. Also play with the rendering options. That will definitely help too. You alternatively can also set the priority in task manager to from normal to realtime, seems to help some folks.

Its not your card, people with even 5870's get some lag/jerkiness/stuttering which sometimes give you motion sickness even though the fps count doesn't drop. I personally think its gotta do with the demo. I haven't played the game (only the demo) but from what we see nowadays, what you get in the demo will carry on into the game.

TC Man, thank you for the great advice. However, things have taken a different turn.

Good news - the passive XFC HD5670 GPU runs happily with the passive Silverstone 330W. So no need for a pricey PSU upgrade.

You are playing at fairly low res but yes of course, a 10% overclock on both will give you a couple of FPS but it won't be a substantial improvement which is why i think some have suggested you upgrade the PSU, at least that way you have headroom, a commodity you are short of currently. You could just go for an Antec 430W "Green" Earthwatts Bronze 80+ certified unit which would help, they are about 50 quid from E Buyer.

Glad to hear that you are now able to run that card with the Silverstone PSU. But you are having low framerate in Fifa12. What framerate do you have in Fifa12? Fifa this year looks pretty good (my last Fifa game was 2003, never bother to buy newer Fifa games, bought PES 'till 2006 edition and never played a soccer game ever since). Just like Tatty_one said with some overclock of the E5300 would help, if you have a more powerful PSU. I think the dual core E5300 can easily go way over the 3 ghz barrier with a good OC capable motherboard such as your P5Q-E. But...

Then Fifa12 has the same problems like NFS: Hot Pursuit? I have overclocked the E8400 to 3.6 ghz and with a HD5870 I still get a dip to 22 frames/sec while normally the game runs smooth (60 frames/sec with vsync=on) which causes such a lag that the game is virtually unplayable. But on another system (from my brother who got a Core i5 2500 which can run the same game with a solid 60 frames/sec (vsync=on) with his old 8800GTS (g92) 512 MB. Does Fifa 12 and Hot Pursuit support multi-threading?
