Re: Console upgrades

They fragment the userbase. The upgrades fail and their mere existence reduces confidence in the the base unit, resulting in a really bad situation for all involved. See history.

Mario Kart 7 also came out 7 years after Mario Kart DS. Even on identical hardware games tend to max out the systems much further on in the lifecycle--launch title games always look worse than EoL-era games. Comparing something like Halo 3 and Halo Reach you can see this difference.

I'm not expecting the 3DS to be a portable super-computer, but it's nowhere near the visual capabilities of the Vita, and isn't even as good as an what the iPhone is capable of. If the visuals are better it's not by much. I skipped the 3DS, and have only briefly dealt with a display unit one a few times.

Yes, it is true that over time, games would look better on identical hardware. But not MKDS to MK7 better. You won't get any game looking like Resident Evil Revelations on a DS no matter how much you optimize anything. I've been playing my DS for over a lustrum, and 3DS since launch. The difference is CLEAR, not the "barely noticeable" you're making it sound like. It can render images better, and has a higher resolution. I know it still nowhere as good as the Vita, and Nintendo could have certainly done better, but by no means does that make the 3DS a bad product. So far, I've enjoyed it a lot. I will probably get Vita once it gets some games that interest me.

LOL. What a stupid idea. People buy consoles because they don't want to bother with constant upgrading like PC gamers.

Upgrading every 5 years is called "constant" ??:laugh:

You upgrade your PC every 5 years? Well i guess that after 5 years there is not much point in upgrading since you must buy a new motherboard, cpu, gpu, ram, probably PSU and hdd. You might want to buy a new case. And optical drive. LOL. So if YOU "upgrade" your PC just 2 X in a decade then i feel sorry for you.:(
