3770K and Hyper212 Evo

I just put together a new system yesterday and I feel my temps are a little off.



That's after 90min of prime95, the variation in idle temps across cores leaves me to believe I may have mounted the cooler poorly. I'm using a HAF-X case with the CPU and exhaust fans being PWM controlled (P8Z77-V Pro board).
I'm not too sure what sorts of temps I should be expecting at stock and 25-27c ambient?
I've read quite a few reviews of the Hyper212 and while its not the biggest or best cooler around I thought it should suffice for a mild IB OC.
I suppose I'll have to remount the cooler regardless but I would like to know how those temps stack up given my high ambient temps and what other people are seeing with their 212 Evo's.

One core on my 3770K is also like 10° hotter than the other ones. I think that's normal

My 3820 does the same thing. It's not unfathomable that one part of the die is a little hotter than another. If you're stock, those temps are pretty normal for a stock TIM CPU lid for an IVB chip at full power. However 80 does seem a little high for stock, granted I haven't used the heat sink that you're using. I'm OC'ed with a Zalman and I barely exceed 70*C at 1.345v, but then again, I'm using a SB-E chip.

If the PWM fans are controlled by the board you should set them to
min: 40c/60% (default lowest)
max: 50c/100%
So it ramps on load and cools to which ever connection they are connected to.

The biggest temp differance will come from voltage adjustments.
Find the multiplier you want and lower the CPU voltage -/+ offset to the lowest acceptable stable voltage.

If you have the current phases on the motherboard for CPU and Motherboard set to above 100% or Regular. You can expect a 2c increase to each step. Auto will fluctuate between setting so the board will run a tad bit hotter.

Appreciate the swift replies guys. I took good care mounting the cooler but I never rule out a bad mount as a possibility and the variation in core temps had me a little confused.
I had hoped to stay under 75c while running at 4.0-4.2ghz or however far 1.1v will get me.
Can't imagine the CPU reaching prime95 temps under any reasonable real world scenario. I'm guessing those aren't unreasonable temps for an IB under a 212 Evo then?

HWmonitor says the max vcore was 1.22 (everything set to auto in BIOS, haven't gotten around to fiddling with that yet) so I assume the peak temps were recorded with that voltage which is higher than I intend to take this chip.

that core that has the highest temp is normally Core 0 or 1 depending on the company. That is the Lead Core which is the busiest core out of the CPU.

v1.1xx will go up to x44 multiplier
v1.2xx is where you need it for x45 multiplier

So if your aiming for 4.2ghz it will be in the v1.0xx range
Temps will more then likely dictate where your comfortable instead of voltage & multiplier

From my experience (4) different BIOSes will go either way on voltage -/+ 0.010 so if you up-date now or later on keep that in-mind
Use the Save Setting Profile to USB it comes in handy.

I started with a stock CPU Offset (-) 0.170 for x35 Turbo x39. Work your way up by 0.020. Expect a 0.020-0.040 differance between mutilpliers once you got pass x45 it becomes a greater gap.

Currently running a CPU Offset (+) 0.080 for x35 Turbo x45 with the latest bios 1504 (Sabertooth board).

Great advice man, I set offset voltage to -0.06V and Turbo multi to 40x and its passed a night of prime95 no problem with a max load voltage of 1.112V and lower temps than before.
However 42x crashed almost instantly at said settings, either way I'm quite happy with 40x and a nice cool system. I am however looking to undervolt it further but setting offset voltage range to more then 0.06 makes the numbers turn which is funny since I'm UNDERvolting.
There is no risk in using this offset voltage is there? last time I did any oc'ing it was in the FSB days with a C2D so I'm a little rusty.

No, no risk.

Keep going down in voltage. You can shave temps down further.

Mine ran at x35 Turbo x40 with a CPU Offset (-) 0.140
