I recently ordered a super discount asus f1a75pro V board, after it arrive I notice it was made NOV last year, and there are noticeable used signs such as small scratchs on the screw hole. The shop claim it to be new, it comes with 1 month shop free retrun policy and 1 year supplier repair policy.

I was plan to return it, cause exchange a same one was not possible, this model runs out after 2 days cause of the super discount price. The price is even cheaper than a 2nd hand f1a75pro V. I decided to get a cpu and test it. Now I put a 3670k cpu on it. intall windows 7. and plan to run occt and prim95.

How do I check for mainboard problems? How will I know that the board will last for some time?

Thanks in advance

A thorough test would involve Memtest, Prime95, OCing, etc. Having the ports work doesn't mean much. It could have been returned for being an OCing lemon for all you know.

It pass a short OCCT and prime95 test, both at 2 hours each. no errors so far. what is a OCing lemon?

A motherboard that will not take overclocking well or not at all.

After some tests, it run prime95 and occt with no errors, so far no BSODs. However, 2 of the usb3.0 ports sometimes are lost, such as after windows update, a reboot would bring back those usb3.0 ports. same problems are also on the newegg sites. cite"Cons: USB ports 3 & 4 (that seem to be designated for the keyboard & mouse as indicated by the manual) appear to be dead. "

Should I test something else? so far it has been on power for 24 hours.

Sounds like the motherboard is a referb. I had a MSI board RMAed first of this year and it came back to looks somewhat used but then after it died again, I RMAed it to have a BNIB come back so its really a toss up.

So mine is still covered by the shop, however the shop can only refound it since they sold out all of this model. If I return it, I end up with a new 3670k with no board to put on.

What did ya pay for it? As long as all your ports work your fine. Make sure you have a recept. Normally I would not recommend buying a board from a shop. Prices change too fast

the shop is online

the shop is online, one of the 4th largest for PC parts in japan. unlike state, they don't have newegg here. one of online shop problems is that we can not check products after it is arrived. normally, I did get some boards or cards that seems used from online shops, even from the largest chain shop(but sold in normal price), so I do a exchange with the shop right away and shop pays the shipping cost. For this board, the problem is it is run out in that shop due to discount price, and I do need some reason if I am going for a refound.

On other thought, if a board is repaired, is it usually very easy to notice? I used to have a gigabyte board, damaged IO, after repair, it is so easy to notice the soliding mark and grease that around the IO chip. So far on this board, I did not find any repair mark. However this board must have been retured by someone, since it has a very old manufacture date-Nov/2011

What else test should I do?

since the shop covers one month with free shipping, I plan to run it 24/7 for one month to test, cause after that asus warranty will charge me shipping cost for any repair.

Personally, I'd have a problem accepting something advertised and sold as new if it looks to be an obvious refurb, return or demo. You could spend that month testing and not finding any problems, only to have it possibly break down after that time and then you'd likely be upset for having to pay to ship it in.

This is not the way a shop should be doing business IMO, no matter what the excuse. This is the kind of thing that would make me want to make an unboxing video of everything I bought with hi res cam to reveal any scratches before use. Threatening to put something like that on YouTube would no doubt have them quickly jumping through hoops for you.

So far one problem found

ya its just like Gamestop selling Nintendo DS/3DS/ PSP carts UMDs new when they aint in the case that they came in.

After windows update, usb 3.0 port 3/4 are lost, no power, and it can be recovered after restart. I think this is the problem why the old owner retruned it. If that is the only problem I will just use it. since even new ones of f1a75v pro has such problem as written by many newegg users.

I wonder how far has board repair technology went. should I see some soliding mark if the board is under heavy repair?

well you did buy a very low end board honestly, and Asus does infact have the most teething problems out of any of them. Honestly if possible id send the board back and go with a reputable company. Meaning a Different Company for the board and a Different Retail/Etailer.

usually a low end board would be micro atx(6 screws), and then it comes to atx(8 screws) and then full size atx(9 screws). I am still in the old school that believe full size atx is better than micro atx. not sure if I am correct?

not true, companies release several series of boards based upon the same chipsets etc. A75 chipset is the top end for FM1 platform but its the other components and build quality of the board that counts as to even price. You can have a Really great MATX board beat the snot out of a lower ATX board even though they are based on the same chipset, just the build quality is different.

with Asus it seems anything with a V in it other than Maximus, Crosshair, Sabertooth, WS seems to be complete and utter budget scrap. Since Youre USB ports are already inop what else is going to fail? Id personally send the board back saying it doesnt work, get your money back and go to a reputable Etailer/Retailer and Get a Gigabyte, AsRock, or MSI Motherboard.
