[WTB] Want a hd 4850 512mb

Hi all

Some of you may no I bought a second 4850 to crossfire and it turned out to be fubard so comeing here hoping someone else wants to sell one working. I can only afford upto £30 posted. I'd love it if it was the palit version to match my other one but as long as its a 4850 with 512 mb ram not bothered. Itl be posted to hd15bb. Thanks all

edit: Sorry should have mentioned originally, im from the UK, i have no problem however buying from over sea's but i doubt it'l fall under my price range with the postage.

Id much prefer to buy off a member on here, than the bay etc that way i can trust that the card will function if im told it will and i know it will have been looked after.

The price isn't %100 fixed but i don't want to go too much higher, other wise i won't be really all that cost effective.

You can crossfire 512MB cards with 1GB cards, and you shouldn't have any trouble at all finding either on gumtree or eBay for that price.

You can crossfire 512MB cards with 1GB cards, and you shouldn't have any trouble at all finding either on gumtree or eBay for that price.

but wont it only use half of the 1 Gb card? limits speed of the faster card to match the slower?

same reason ive decided against a 4870.

I have spotted a few on the bay and been reassured that this one works well

With SLI, the faster card (where compatible) runs at the speed of the slower.

With CF-X, you get the VRAM of the smallest card, but you can benefit from one card running faster speeds or more cores.

But given that in any case it'll be no slower than 4850-512-CF, why does it matter? (Presuming no additional cost.)

why pay extra for something that wont be used, obviously with cards of this age it wont be a huge amount extra but still.

The way people chuck these away on sites light gumtree, it might well be zero extra. I paid £40 for a GTX460 on gumtree, I've seen 4870s for £10 posted. Just gotta wait for the right deal and get there first. (On eBay, you do tend to pay extra, because ofc it's an auction.)

Why not just sell your 4850 and buy a 460?
