ok so with the new series of games coming up I am getting a little worried about my pc's ability to handle a few of the games. my graphics card is a Galaxy GTX 460 1 gig SE. I know there is potential for overclocking on it but how much? I have compared the card to one that is recommended for bioshock infinite I don't see much of a difference. my gpu runs at 700 where as the recommended runs at 800. can I achieve this with my gtx 460? or is there a low budget card to replace it with that can do it? I have 100 to spend on a new one. also I noticed that my card is a 256 bit interface and so is what the recommend. does this mean no 128 bit interface can run it?

I think you can go ahead and try to overclock. Both of the GTX460s that I've had will run 848MHz (achieved with MSI Afterburner) before any sort of issues arise. 800MHz is a good starting point I think :)

On the GTX4xx series, any changes to core clock speed will be carried over to the shaders(2:1 ratio). There may be some additional headroom for a memory overclock, just watch your temps.

what model# do you have? Some coolers are better than others.

I've heard that the Galaxy coolers aren't the best, but it should still be OK--the GTX460s run pretty cool. Under 90C is OK, under 80C is entirely reasonable--anything lower than that is just icing on the cake :)
Most important is temperature playing a game or during a stress test--not idle temperatures.

this is true, my old asus 460 did something like 875mhz, i slowly OCed in increments of 5mhz at a time using msi afterburner, those cards have some good OCing potential.

with only 100 bucks in your pocket you arent gonna get very far. the next best thing would be a 560ti or better. look around craigslist, you might find someone thats in need of cash and will settle for a lowball. thats how i came up on my 580

Hello.
I have a Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB and don't know where to start in graphic overclocking.
You can see the rest of the computer in my System Specs.

I see that MSI afterburner is the most used software.
Also I have installes HWmonitor.
Do I need more software? GPUz?

Can you tell me what steps to follow?

Thanks.

EDIT

I was making some attemps in the Afterburner, and right now it is set at Core825 - Memory2000 - Default voltage 1.0120V
In Ungine Heaven/Valley the temps max at 70ºC

Make an attemp in 850-2000 but I get artifacts. (green/blue/purple lights in wrong places)

I don't know if this is the top for my card.
Any idea?
