I currently have a computer tyats gets rather hot. I have two 3-pin fans but only one secondary fan plug in on mobo. Can I wire one fan into the other and plug in the main fan to power both? I got the tools and tape to do it but don't want to short the board.

Probably not a good idea. Get a 3 pin to molex adapter, or go for a cheap fan controller.

Boo. Well I guess one fan for now. Thanks

If I may, why would it be bad? I noticed the 120mm fan takes .15amps on 12v whereas the 80mm takes .25amps. Is that why? Or the risk of a spark jumping to a mono component?

I run my auxilary fans on their own power supply (12v). Although, I had to make toggle switches for them, but they work ok.

Or this. I just ordered one
Fractal Design Adjust 108 Six Channel Fan Controller

If you don't want to spend any money... just wire the ground and power into the PSU 4pin molex, leave one of the sensor cables on one of the plugs and plug it into the mobo if you want to monitor the rpm of the fan, though you wouldn't be able to change their speed, unless you wire them into the 5v rather than the 12v.

however, if you can afford it, grab a fan controller. I wouldn't recommend running more than one fan per header on the mobo as far as powering them goes.

i've got proper splitters i bought that do it, they lower the RPM of the fans. buy a proper adaptor (they're cheap) or get a molex -> 3 pin adaptor.

thanks all, i've ended up just using the 120mm fan and dremeling some slits for ventilation. well some is an understandment lol

I don't see why a simple Y splitter cable wouldn't have done it. I run two 120mm PWM fans of my motherboard PWM CPU fan header, no problem.

Pictures?

ehh it wasn't the prettiest job, it does the job, but i haven't done any case modding before this so...imagine for the fan grill a bunch of 1/4" holes that look like they were meant to be symmetric, and then 4"x1/4" squigly lines stacked 5 times and 2 groups of them spaced about 2" apart on the opposite side of the new fan placement  to show pictures would be :ohwell: disgusting....lol

I've wired 3 fans together several times :D. Currently, I have 3 GT's wired together for my top rad and 3 GT's wired together for my rear rad. Then each of those plug into my fan controller.

I've plugged into the mobo when I had my yate loons, but apparently it's not recommended.
