Hey Guys,

I wanted to upgrade my motherboard to accomodate a 4 way GPU setup. I am eyeing on Gigabyte z77x-UP7. Is it worth it the price? Currently I have Asrock Z77 Professional and now I have 7950 crossfire. Sooner I wanted to buy 7990 or 2 7970 but maybe 7990 is better.

Reason for this is so I have an option to have 3 30" monitor for eyefinity

Is that your own personal experience? The little bit of eyefinity gaming I've done in crossfire hasn't been too bad for the games that my 6870s can actually handle.

i haven't bothered with ef but 3 of my close mates have. all 3 are back on 1 high res screen now.

2 of those also had 3 cards and have removed 1 saying more than 2 in xfire is not worth the hassle either.

take from that what you will :)

Whether or not eyefinity is worth it or not(I haven't tried it myself), I can say two 7970 cards will have issues with performance with three 30" monitors(assuming you mean 2560*1600 30" monitors). My 7970 OC'ed to 1175/1450 with a single 2560*1600 30" monitor struggles to maintain 45 fps on todays newest games on high/very high settings(BF3, Crysis 3, and MechWarrior Online). No way a single 7970 can handle more than one of these monitors, and with 2 or 3 monitors, crossfire will have issues maintaining 30 fps in these games at very-high/ultra.

maybe ill just stick with my current set up then consider putting my gpu under water instead..

im happy right now with my 1600p monitor but since price of gpu right now is cheap, i thought about quadfire and have EF 1600p.

I know AmD didnt release a frame pacing yet for eyefinity but i am sure they are working hard on it. I hope.

I do also know that z77 chipset will bottleneck the quadfire as highest cpu for lga 1155 is only 3770k.

I don't think so. Its not the CPU but the lanes. It would be X8 but still could handle it

yeah thought about it....

could also drop these build now..

i mean if I will to buy these expensive mobo, might as well get the haswell build.. or wait for the haswell extreme build instead... i could always use my old parts instead.. thanks for the info though..
