because ps4 is a closed architecture and can "code to the metal" optimization, could it produce better graphics then a duel titan set up, a duel r9 290x set up, sli titan set up etc. etc.

I feel like this question is asked about ever console generation, and answer is pretty much always no.

No, it can just give you 95% of the visuals at a fixed resolution in exchange for paying a lot less. And over time that percentage will drop a bit as graphics cards get better and better, however because of the multiplatform nature of games the gap won't get insane until we're toward the EOL of the consoles. The coding to the metal bit is overcome by the sheer power advantage of modern graphics cards.

Either this is a troll or this poster is not a day past 13

The graphics processing power of a simple 7950 is double that of the PS4. Assuming the 'to the metal' efficiency of the PS4 made it twice as efficient, it would still only match the 7950.

The 7950 was released 2 years ago, so the PS4 is probably at the level a mid-high end PC graphics card was back then.

On the CPU side, it's an under-clocked 8 core AMD CPU, so again way behind current PC CPUs.

That said, you can't really beat the PS4 performance for the price. It would be difficult to tell a lot of the games' graphics from that of a PC, unless they we placed side by side and compared in detail. There will be stuff missing, that makes the PC look awesome, but you might not notice it.

PC's are moving on though, quite quickly, as long as AMD, Nvidia and Intel keep up the competition with each other for CPUs and GPUs, when there's no competition, progress is slow eg. Sandy-Ivy-Haswell, or prices high eg. GTX780.

As PCs surpassed PS4 2 years ago and consoles have to last several years, by then PC graphics will be many times better than console.

I dont think we will be able to build a machine which surpasses ps4 graphics for equal amount of money though.

You're comparing a 2x €500 setup to a €400 console! That should be all the explanation you need.

You registered an account just to ask this?

I'm sure quick Google search would have solved your query. I'm thinking you may be a bot account. £10 says next week you'll be spamming urls.

yeah, I think I wasted my fingers replying.

This Should answer your question

No

Isn't it a fact that the PS4 were made to run on a TV screen which may or may not be hi def?

I think a computer video card are capable of much better resolution than this.

EDIT: I just realize this may be a stupid question as I forgot about the HDMI.

yep and I believe BF4 for example will be upscaled from 720p on Xbone and 900p on PS4. http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Confirmed-Battlefield-4-720p-Xbox-One-900p-PS4-60210.html

Most PC users still use 1080, but many use higher res like 1440 or multiple 1080 monitors.

PS4 and Xbone were built to meet a cost, size and power consumption target, whilst being highly optimised to produce the best graphics effect possible with the hardware for the next 8-10 years.

PC has no limit apart from what people are willing to pay and the technology that is possible or that companies are willing to make available.

But honestly even being 1609x900 BF4 on PS4 looks great.

First define graphics. Because in my book resolution, frame rate, AA, etc are also graphics. Take a look at Killzone 2 & 3, i personally can't play them, i can't stand the low frame rate and input lag, IMO it's a very nice game too see but not to play.

Also, i'm not interested how good or bad multiplatforms run on consoles those are not the games that push the hardware to it's limits on console. IMO the exclusives ones are the ones that are really "coded to the metal", and IMO they usually stand up because of their artistic direction and smart use of the resources and not so much because of technical achievements.

I'm looking forward to what the graphics of the ps4 look like in person. I have watched a view gameplay vids but I cant wait to see what it has to offer.

Do you think graphics can get THAT much better. they are pretty realistic these days..?

JG

Not really.

Consoles have nothing on quad-SLI/quad-crossfire driving many megapixels (thousands of dollars). PS4 can barely handle 2 MP. Still, to match the PS4 in computing power would cost more than $400 but that's usually been the case with consoles at debut anyway.

Consoles sell at a loss so comparing price points isn't fair.

Sony sells theirs system at a loss and recoups in the game sales

Short Answer: NO

Even the first batch of games released on PS4 already looked way worse than their PC counterparts. for example BF4 on PS4 is running at around medium settings on @ 60FPS @ 900p resolution.

BF4 on a typical High End Gaming PC can run High-Ultra Settings @ 60+ FPS @1080p resolution.

The leap in PC hardware is becoming bigger and bigger and more noticeable each year unlike past generations so my prediction is consoles wouldn't be able to catch up. remember there's already been a huge setback in video game technology last gen all because they prolonged it for a few more years. Everything was a console port so PC gamers suffered, they had the latest hardwares but their games were still designed on 2005-06 hardware.

Now PC gaming is just starting to get back with the advent of Steam, Linux, Oculus Rift, Indie Games, Onlive, etc, I wouldn't be surprised if PC becomes the lead platform once again and everything else will be "console ports" once again.

I think Steam Machines is the future for home consoles because it is pretty much a pc and you can upgrade it so it can catch up with the latest technologies but it still has the user friendliness consoles has

Actually this is incorrect. BF4 on PS4 is High settings and at 1600x900 to maintain 60 FPS
