I read somewhere there are multiple versions. There is this one, one with a 660, and one with an i3 and a 650ti, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure they are going to release SteamOS so you can install it on any machine you want. But I'm not really sure why you would want to. If you are going to build the computer yourself make it a real PC.

The way I see it, the Steam Boxes are to try to capture some of the console crowd that don't want to bother building a machine or think building PCs are too hard/expensive.

Just "because." The tinkerer in me just loves to do it! No more friends left who want a build, so I'll be rebuilding and upgrading one of the house PC's soon. Doing a Steam Machine seems like a good project.

Anyway, back on topic: That's a heck of a lot of equipment they expertly fit in there. I'm actually looking forward to official release!

Actually I got it wrong, the lowest they go is a 660. Thought those are just the specs of the beta machines, in theory one of the final versions could have a 650ti in it.

Anyway, the beta systems they sent out had i3s, i5s, and i7s for CPUs and 660s, 760s, 780s, and Titans for GPUs.

I wonder how many of those boxes that will return from beta will have that hardware in them lol a free 780 or titan anyone ?

what gets me is how the heck they fit that 780 in there and does or will it overheat under full load or.... are these just to run Steam out of date games like Half Life 2 wait for ever for Episode 3 ........Anyone here have one ?

well i will agree that the stock GTX 780 cooling will be loud bcs it need all it's "sucking" powah to cool the card and i am surprised not to see some air wents anywhere near where the fan takes air in

The way they are designed there are vents in the side and an air "tunnel" that brings fresh air directly to the GPU fan. I don't think the fan would be that much louder than it would be in a regular PC. Valve really did a good job with the design.

well i finally got my steam box os on , what a pain and linux didnt like my OC either , downloading games now

the games available are limited mostly to older valve games, the most recent game on my list is metro last light, in fact thats the only AAA ive got for lynux, but the shitting sound doesnt work though (on mine) so im done for now with steam os, as valve say, its best to wait till 2014 unless your a lynux daemon(im not) because noobness may kill the os anyway as i have at least once .

You've stumbled on the big issue I forsee with the SteamBox and SteamOS, they aren't enough AAA titles ported to linux.

Metro LL is the only one currently supported and it's bad on SteamOS as reported by eurogamer. One thing worries me more though than crashes and the such, apparently there are no settings for the game just a slider for quality?!

You heard right there is one Quality slider but I have seen a review video wherein the guy demoing had more settings than that odd.
