Advice on new sata hard drive

Hi all, I've just installed a new SATA hard drive (not sata 2), my old hard drive is IDE and has windows installed on that. Everything works fine, but I was wondering would it make much difference if I refomatted everything and installed windows on my new drive rather than keeping it on the old IDE drive.

Not sure what the difference in speed it between the both. If it's not gonna make much difference I'll leave it the way it is.

Please tell us what are the hard drives? Commonly there's not such a big difference in terms of performance between an ordinary SATA and IDE hard drive, but if we compare a 40GB Maxtor and 500GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA you'd better choose the SATA drive as your primary.

Both are 200GB, both maxtor, the new one is Maxtor Diamondmax SATA

Dunno about the speed difference between them, perhaps look at some reviews with benchmarks on the subject?

Its difficult to 'feel' or 'know' that a hard drive is fast because in all effect it might just be a good system. Eg just because your hard drive reads/writes slowly doesnt mean its slow, perhaps the read/write time of the ram is contributing to the problem. Or perhaps a ram upgrade will allow greater performance increases for your system in general.

Its all relative to the overal specs of your system, as well as the speed of the drives.

Ok thanks for help, my system is running fine, I was just wondering if SATA made that much of a difference, sounds like it dosen't so I'll carry on as usual.
