Why is there no cheap wireless gaming mice?

Mine lasts 4 full days on 500 report rate and 1-2 full days on 1000 report rate. Love how it does data over cable while charging and uses a micro USB rather than a proprietary cable.

I haven't just left my G602 on 500 reports/sec, I usually switch it back to endurance mode (125 reports/sec) when I'm not gaming. I get a month or more, but granted I don't game for more than a couple hours a day, but the computer is constantly being using for things other than gaming. I find less than a week to be unacceptable and a month or more is pretty awesome. Even on performance mode (500), I don't think it would burn through batteries in a week or less.

since the g700 charges from the same cable as my phone, i dont mind it at all. if your mouse lasts that long with current battery tech, eithers its huge and heavy - or its running a really low report rate like you said. mines at 1000Hz.

Your right, I don't need 500Hz all the time, but even if I leave it on 500Hz, I'm sure my battery life would be at least a couple to a few weeks on fresh batteries. The mouse is about the same size as the G500 despite a different design that might make it a little longer. It weighs less than my spare Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000. I don't think 1000hz justifies such a drop in battery life though.

Maybe what I'm trying to get at is that the G602 is more all purpose than the G700 as opposed to be for strictly gaming.

Only have a logitech mx performance mouse only 7 days or so not 14 days, if i am lucky 8-19 days. Using 2700 mah battery

About the original topic:
"Wireless" and "Gaming", so as "Cheap" and "Gaming" usually don't go together.
You might not be able to find anything in a $30 range, but mid-price segment has some interesting items.
Before I switched back to wired Logitech G15 & G5 i had MX3000 combo. Both devices work on the same BT receiver and the quality/power efficiency ratio was pretty good. had to charge mouse ~ once a week with average 3 work(play) hours a day.
The new one is around $70-$80. Used: $50++

as others have said you don't want cheap wireless technology for gaming. I was using a Logitec M510 mouse which worked fine for RTS but for FPS there was noticeable um PITA's i suppose you could say. Brain farts here and there, idk if its because the wireless reciever worked on the same frequency as my phone and girlfriend's kindle but once i switched to the Perixx MX 2000II wired mouse my gaming world was back to normal.

I'll never go wireless again. i tried it 5 years ago, sucked, tried it just 3 months ago, still sucks. Granted it wasn't some 60-100 dollar wireless mouse, but still $35 bucks for the perixx and i'm happy as can be. wired forever for me.

Side winder is discontinued so good luck getting support or help if something goes wrong.

Microsoft should have never did that :(

well on battery life now i can add : my G602 lasted 2 month and 1 week with the bundled alkaline battery that come with it, now on a set of energizer until i find some AA Accu (around 2500-2700mAh) so it lasted long enough at my taste and i use it daily around 8-10hrs a day

reported duration
Endurance mode: 1440hrs (i can game on endu mode ... so why not someone else :D)
Performance mode: 250hrs (if you feel a "lag" on endu ... try perf ;) )
all that with only 2 AA alk battery

as for the price: usual price (official logitech site) 109chf, most retailer price : 119chf, Mediamarkt price : 89.90chf it was the cheapest i could find.
If i except Amazon and their outrageous 62.99$ which is cheap as hell for a mouse like that! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E4MQODC/?tag=tec06d-20

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104390 I like this one and would use it for gaming, good range, good surface tracking, smooth or geared scrolling, fast clicks, comfortable and decently weighted. I use it at work with my laptop.

i have a M705 Marathon (more than 3yrs now still with the original battery)... not really a gaming mouse but a real long runner :D tho the laser of that one is not even on the same league of the optical Delta Zero on the G602... i feel weird ... a 2500dpi optical sensor made me forget the 8600dpi laser sensor of my G600

and it must be just me but even at 125hz polling i feel no input lag (4ms)

that's part of the reason i did move back to wired. was gaming at my in-laws on my laptop. then no power and they didn't have any AA lol.

That's what rechargeable batteries are for and one set of batteries on my G602 lasts over a month. Only recently has the mouse cord been bothering me which pushed me to switch from a G500.

that's mainly the reason why i use 2 set of 2 2800mAh accu and a quick desk charger (portable tho  )

well you fella's seem to have more patience than I. plus the price of a corded mouse being cheaper than a cordless mouse of the same quality+rechargeable batteries, i found appealing :).

That's what a G700 is for... best of both worlds

Except the battery life is horrendous, other than that, it's a great in-between, but with battery life over a month, who needs to plugin your mouse? :p

I also already had two pairs of NiMH batteries which I just got as a present back in December, so I didn't need to invest in the batteries or charger. It also seems to be perfectly happy with the lower voltage that the NiMH batteries produce.

My 2 cents on why "gaming" mice cost more vs their wired counterparts. One word: consistency! What I mean is with a wired device one does not have to worry about outside factors such as RF interference which can disrupt the signal, battery life that can cut out suddenly, or general input lag. In a wireless gaming device, the technology needs to be of higher quality (over a general use mouse) to ensure smooth uninterrupted gameplay. Power has to be highly regulated for the batteries, the RF device must not be affected by outside forces and keep a fast repeat rate. As well the extra components needed such as the i/o receiver, battery housing, etc, drive up the cost; what cost is a cable in comparison?

Honestly, I just gave up using wireless gaming mice due to the problems mentioned above, moving on to an Vengeance M65 and have not looked back. :p

i can't say patience for that : perf = around 10 days with a 24/24 use ... and you rarely use your comp 24/24 (for me its 8-10) or Endu= around 60 day, after that second set of Alk AA (Energizer classic) i will test the Energizer Lithium to compare and then i will maybe use my 4x 1.2V 2800mAh + the desk charger... (changing batteries doesn't take much more time than wiring a G700/Mamba) funny side with the Energizer Lithium the mouse will be lighter o_O since they weight less than a normal alk or accu

well where i am a G602 cost way more than one on B&H or Amazon but it also cost the same of my previous G600 and under the price of a Razer Naga/Roccat Kone XTD/Steelserie Sensei.
and after nearly 3 month of use : i notice none of the problems mentioned above (2nd set of battery and still above 70% remaining)

i still game in endurance mode + 2500dpi and sometime switch to perf for more nervous fps/games but at 125hz (4ms) or 500hz (1ms) i feel no huge difference

i always forget to mention but my accu are Ansmann 2850mAh 1.2V and i paid less than 10chf for the 2 set (action price :D ) so basically my G602 still cost under a Naga/Sensei/Kone XTD

Is that 2800 mAh between two batteries? 1.2v are typically NiMH. I think you might have the same thing I have.

I rotated the image, but there must be some meta-data that is rotating it again on TPU. Odd.

typo i meant Ansmann 2850mAh 1.2V digital (i wrote too many time Energizer in the post: my finger went in auto mode and my brain disconnected )
ansmann-2850mah.jpg

basically those

No wonder you get twice the battery life I do, they're twice as big (capacity). :p

i didn't tested them atm : only the bundled duracell for the 1st 2 month and 3 week and now Energizer classic for 1 month and before i use these i will test the Energizer Lithium

the bundled battery did hold 2 month and 3 week (1440 hrs is exactly 60 days on a 24hrs daily "inhuman" use ... ahern... ) i got with my 10hrs daily use 81 days (with some switch to Perf mode but mostly Endu mode) so 810 hrs
logitech claim 250/1440 which is a "in the best case" theory, still 810 hrs in a mix of both settings with a fixed dpi of 2500 is quite nice

i really dont see the problem - with 2-3 days of gaming life at maximum settings, what does it matter? i charge my phone more often, and they use the same cable.
