How to re-use a ssd cache?

i have a asus vivo book, s500c, it comes with a 24gb ssd as cache and 500gb hdd, i am planning to swap out the 500gb hdd with intel ssd, using intel migration tool, Have done such migration with my 13inch vivo book and it was very good.

now I wonder how can i reuse that 24gb ssd cache, it is a sandisk ssd, slower than the intel 520 I am putting in to the vivo book. how to i turn it off? how do I reuse it after taking it out from my notebook?

I apologize, but I couldn't understand is it a 2.5 inch drive or mSata? If it is an mSata I might have a few ideas for you, since I was in the same situation.

It is a msata, i will remove the 2.5 HDD and install ssd,

IF I am correct, caching SSD's works only for HDD's.
Meaning, if you add SSD in place of HDD, it will be just another drive in the system.

They do work for caching other SSD's as well, but tests show that it actually hurts performance.

On the second note -yes. You could leave the mSata SSD and simply format it and use it as a separate drive. I was running at this combo: 256 main SSD+ 24gb Adata for downloads and backup. I find it ok.

What I did when I removed the mSata drive is I bought a mSata drive enclosure and now I am using it as a boot drive when I have to install something. You can see it in my older thread here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/msata-enclosure-delivered.197662/ .

From this boot mSata SSD to my SSD, I install Windows 8.1 for about 3 minutes. It's a really fast installation. I've tried from this boot drive to Sata 1 and it was like 10 min, I think. It's been a while.

This casing however was kinda expensive, BUT you could get a cheaper one on Ebay that will do the job just as well, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-8inch-m...659?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43d74167b3 .

EDIT: the mSata standard was а transitional one. It's mostly dead now. We've got the next best thing: PCIe SSD's on M.2 factor. If you don't want to spend any money just leave it in the laptop and keep using it. At the end of the day sell it if you wish so, if you don't like the external enclosure idea.

many thanks, the only problem is that I dont have the key for win8.1 on this notebook, so I can only clone the HDD to intel 520 with the intel migration tool, should I remove the cache before that or should I just leave it there and it will become a drive later?
