Hi guys. I explain you the situation... My mother work in a hotel room service and a customer dropped a usb key in the corridor without identification and its encrypted with Disknet pro 4 EPM Explorer.

I would like to unlock it to get personal contact or info of customer so we can ship it back because customer did not call after a month.

Two files on it are dvrem.epm and Unlock.

Can you help me on that one? thx

Private is private. Format the USB drive and keep it.
I would not want you to unlock my locked drive, it's unacceptable to even ask.

Its 1gig drive sso i dont have use for it. I tought its maybe businees report or school stuff.

It's none of your business.

Drop it off at the police station.

Choices:
1) Keep it, after wiping.
2) Hand over to the ol' Bill (Police)
3) Stick it in a safe in case customer asks for it at some future date....
4) Don't post on a public forum about decrypting the drive :p

But you have no right to access it, if it bothers you so much hand it in to the police and give them the details of the person so they can locate the person.

That it the whole point of encrypted drive, to not be able to access data without right pass...

Wipe and keep, or wipe and trash..

If you bring it to the cops it'll more than likely end up in the trash without a wipe.

Here in Germany if you take something that a customer forgot just because you want to be generous and give it back you will lose your job for sure, it's not allowed to take anything that it doesn't belong to you, in the worst case if you unlock the usb and get info about the customer and you contact him/her how are you going to explain where you got his/her address/phone number, will you tell that you unlock the USB?
Better forget about to be generous and don't get in trouble, you don't know how the customer could react.

Note:
In the City where I live a man lost his mobile Phone and he reported to the police station as lost, a (unfortunately ) woman found the mobile phone and brought it to the police station, I don't remember exactly what was wrong that at the end the woman was charged 500€ fine.

Lost and found box, or something. She might come back to for it, but she would have to be able to prove it's hers. Or drop it by the police.

Which is why it's to be kept at the hotel.

And, no problem... we are here for you.
If you ever need to be thrown off the roof into a trash can, set on fire, have body parts smashed, and in any way, need to be abused, etc., we are here for you.:slap:
We'll attempt to keep that moral compass pointed in the right direction, even if it takes extreme measures.:nutkick:

I think it should of been put in a lost'n'found bin until a later time. hate be the person who lost it and decided to check the hotel they found it to be told no ( which be a lie ) or yes but we destroyed it which would mean i would not be going that hotel again.

Best would of taken it to the police station or better still a lost'n'found bin.

Fined by the police for turning in a lost phone? Let no good deed go unpunished....

Abused..sounds interesting...but...with or without thermal paste as lubricant?? :-P

Good move...

Encryption wouldn't be very useful if you could circumvent it, now would it?

Destroying it wasn't a good idea should have kept a hold of it in a safe till they claimed it. For it only being a 1gb drive it could be an access key for something they need.

Thread can be closed. OP unfollowing it. Thx

Because it's s business hold onto it in lost and found indefinitely. Now with that being said. If I found it on the street. I would try to break the encription in a heart beat. Just for the fun of it
