idk about that, it had more detail on the Nvidia side, just check it again, its not just the snow, its also the buildings and units.
I don't see "more units".
Check snow at the point marked with red arrow.

Think about it from another perspective, CF 480 scored in 3DMark slightly below 1080.
They shouldn't need stinky tricks to beat it in AMD favoring game.

There is definitely more detail on the right, around that blue building on the left you can seeing it's missing a number of details and the ground is lacking some definition and shadowing too, in fact right across the board.

ermm I never spoke of "more units" so why do put that in quotations?
I spoke of DETAIL, more DETAIL.

more detail in the units, more detail in the buildings and yeah more detail in landscape as well
I am 100% sure the Nvidia card is running at higher settings here

Mia culpa, number of them was the only thing I could think of (in the beginning of the video there were less).

AMD using lower settings on a game that favours them already, oh dear.

Went back and watched the vid again, and yes the biggest difference comes form shadowing and terain which I still really doubt would not be a difference in settings.
There is just much more depth on the Nvidia side:

Oh and another, notice how in that canyon on the right it looks much more detailed as well as the shadowing on the big red unit on the left-ish, the other looks much flatter

Added white semi transparent layer on the right ("fog", "snow" whatever), do you still see "more details" on the right?

ermm yes, with ease, I mean you dont?
I know certain settings for games add little for the performance they ask, hell look at The Division, there is virtually no difference I can distinct between many settings on or off but here I can clearly see more detail on the right side.
The left has in many places just a mass of brown or black while the right has little nuances to them, little bumbs and differences in the terrain.

Nope.
Not saying you are lying or something, just don't see it myself. (as with zoomed building in my earlier post)

Well like I said with the division, some people see differences, others just want to know they are running something at the highest of settings.
But to me here, just stepping back and looking at both pictures the right just looks much better

wow... I was hoping to grab an used Nano to replace my 7970 (not that I need the upgrade THAT much playing at 1920x1200) but this migh actually be a better buy.

Although it has worse performance per watt compared to the 1070 the price difference makes up for that.

If the 480 is closer to the 980 than it is to the 970 then I'm a buyer for that price thats a good buy, It seems like an even better deal than the 78XX cards were.

Don't think the performance/watt difference will be as big as some people make it out to be. The card will probably draw somewhere around 120W under heavy load.

Im still running an HD6950.....and yes...im feeling it....
But every gen since i bought my card has just not been where I wanted it to be, but this might be an upgrade for me purely of how affordable it seems.
Either that or ill splash more on the GTX1070...

And AMD's answer to 1080:

If one doesn't work, build in moar cards!!

LOL, Crossfire?

I'd much rather pay $400 for a more powerful single GPU card, because quite frankly, Crossfire can be a pain. Plus they happened to pick the one game Dx12 works well on. Most games would likely run better on one 1070, and for $20 less.

AMD's marketing is still as dysfunctional as ever.

RX480 has to be the C4 as it is around GTX970 performance.
So the C7 should be interesting when that is announced.

Makes me realize that $200 isn't so great overseas, when the conversion isn't arranged fairly. I wouldn't be surprised if 480s launch at £180 or more. GTX 970 will come down in price (or just go used) and possibly still be the better buy.
Then again, 8gb on the 480 makes it far superior to the 970.

This is why I don't buy AMD.. Yea they always try to compete FPS/consumption wise but they just never look the same. Nvidia looks better.
AMD tends to use tricks, so it doesn't have to render the things nvidia chooses to render, which degrades quality on AMD cards.. I went red once.. Once.. Never again..

Just search for amd (or ati) vs nvidia image quality, before posting things like this.

My experience is exactly the opposite. I suppose it depends on the setup and games.

Why don't AMD just slam 2x RX 480 on a single card, give it dual 6pin and call it a day? I know it's a dual GPU which I don't like, but if they push enough of these on the market, they will force the change with developers. And at least in DX12, that means same performance as GTX 1080. Or around there. It's a lot easier and cheaper for AMD and end customers. I guess they just aren't ready yet, that's why they are banking on multi GPU with Navi, 2 years down the road...
