Okay, have a video card that has a "sticker" covering the plastic cooler. I want to remove this label so that the card matches the second card and the system that it will go in.

I don't want to scratch the plastic on the cooler.

What would be the best way to remove this label?

I know I could probably peel it off............Maybe. But I don't want to use anything sharp for fear of scratching the plastic cover.

Thanks in advance

Use Goo-Gone.

If you feel you could peel it off, then use a hair dryer or heat gun to heat it up and work it off while it is hot/warm. Then use Goo Gone to clean up the residue. Citrus does a good job of removing adhesive material in my experience. :)

Yup, Goo-Gone or rubbing alcohol.

Drip it on there, let it soak in, then use a paper towel + finger nail through the paper towel to rub/scratch it off.

If you use Goo-Gone, use water to clean off the Goo-Gone once the sticker is removed. Rubbing alcohol shouldn't require any clean up.

Goo-Gone is awesome.

Be careful if you decide to use rubbing alcohol or do a spot test. I've had some plastics react to rubbing alcohol.

Ah yea! I forgot about using a heat gun. I actually have one. Got to be careful with the heat gun though. That puppy gets frigging hot. :p

Heat Gun.

I can't tell you how many time I have used this tool. Great investment., Yea it gets hot. You can cook with it

Or hand sanitizer. Works wonders.. If you ever get one of those big, orange parking stickers on your car.. Use hand sanitizer and it will come right off..

Really? Hmm, I'll have to give some of that a try. Good knowledge man.

That is why I prefer a hair dryer. I can't get impatient, crank up the heat, and melt the plastic with a hair dryer...

Peel it off. If there are any glue residues, use soft cloth and liquid candle wax (for those glass candles if you have any). It is the least aggressive and always kills any kind of glue (it just has to get into direct contact with glue), even stuff that is resistant to more aggressive chemicals. I've learned this trick ages ago and have been using it ever since.

Just don't use too much so it won't go where you don't want it. Then you easily de-grease remaining candle wax with same soft cloth and some cleaning alcohol (just using cleaning alcohol won't remove glue).

Yea I had a valette tell me to park my car somewhere at a wedding I was performing.. I come out after the wedding and there is a huge, orange sticker on my car..
Needless to say I was pissed.. They had some hand sanitizer and it came off like magic, it was so ridiculously easy. Wiped right off.. usually have to take a razor to that kind of sticker.

Razor blade and shaving creM too iirc

peel it, clean the glue leftovers with rubbing alcohol, also a few drops of WD40 for taking out all glue...

Regards,

GOO be gone sold in most grocery store's it melts stickers right off. also try nail polish remover but that stuff eats alot of things fast so test it first.

Just a air dryer will work as once the glue heats it gets sticky, although this will depend on the sticker. If your just talking plastic a kettle might do the trick with the steam.

if any residue of the glue if any rubbing alcohol.

With the hand sanitizer, you don't need a razor.. It turns the entire sticker into a pile of useless goo. You could use a wash cloth.. ;)
If you've never tried that method, try it. It's the most easily accessible and cheapest method I've found. Find hand sanitizer anywhere.

As for goobgone.
Goo b gone isn't at every corner store and gas station and costs more I assume?

Yep, its one of the 6950's bro. I am trying to get away from the decorated type cooler and just stay with the straight black cooler. It will go a bit better with the system I think.

Hand sanitizers use alcohol. @biffzinker's warning applies.

googone/orange oil

Yea, that'd be bad..lol
I wouldn't use it on plastic or rubber then, for sure..
I get the impression that you shouldn't let it soak in alcohol. What should be safe:
1. Drip on Goo-Gone until the label is soaked.
2. Let it sit for a few minutes to penetrate the label and coat the adhesive.
3. Attempt to take as much of the label off as possible.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until the label+adhesive is gone. Now all you have is residual orange oil.
5. Dampen a spot of a cloth/paper towel with rubbing alcohol and use it to clean up the orange oil.
6. Wipe away any excessive rubbing alcohol with a clean cloth/paper towel.
7. Let dry, shouldn't take more than a minute.

Should be cleaner than your dishes. XD
