OFFICIAL Strategy Gaming Thread

that looks rather similar to CoH.

Kinda annoying when trailers dont show what the games are like to PLAY them.

Well, I've never played CoH games but original Blitzkrieg looked like Red Alert 3

that video made me go play CoH online. Still an active community and i can blitz it on ultra settings in DX10 now, muahahahaha

Stellaris is out, seems there are quite a few complaints but early reviews seem favorable.

I am going to wait though...I'm not entirely sold on this title yet. Anyone buy it and play? Can we expect a review from @RCoon ? :D

And dammit, someone had to go and say CoH....reinstalling!!! :D

Thursday. Been playing since last week.

I've been looking at some people playing it, and I definitely want it.

My fav. are Company of Heroes 1 & 2 and Dawn of War series.
Now waiting for DOW 3. Here is the trailer.

Civ 6 coming in October....

"Civilization VI will see the tech tree tied more closely to the map and in-game situations: if you don't have access to a quarry, you might find it hard to research masonry; or if you haven't found the ocean, it might be impossible to undertake naval research.

hmmm
sounds interesting.
i am intrigued.

Anyone picked up Total War: Warhammer yet? Or are we all too addicted to Stellaris? Are there any massive teething issues that I should wait until fixed? Although all the planned DLC for it makes me want to wait regardless. Hmmm...

The squad system in Civ 6 reminds me of the systems in Kohan and in Dawn of War, both of which I really enjoyed. I think it's an awesome system for squad based combat. And I'm disappointed there aren't more games using something similar.

I have been keeping an eye on Stellaris, and I'm so close to buying it...we'll see after a couple more patches. Many are saying to wait...but many are enjoying it.

Many are saying Distant Worlds: Universe offers a better experience...but that game/simulation is very complex and takes so much time to learn for someone like me...as much as I want to get into it I never seem to be able to stick with it sadly.

There is some good news on the Homeworld: Remastered front: http://www.fistsofheaven.com/gearbox-homeworld-remastered-patch/

Looking very forward to that and the Overhaul Beta for Shallow Space! :toast:

Are there any glaring reasons to buy Stellaris over Glactic Civ 3? I may have to review some youtube vids before deciding. I'm a huge Stardock fan.

Hey all of you sexy strategy people. So I want to buy something refreshing to play and can`t decide should I get Xcom 2, Distant Worlds: Universe or maybe something else? Also I read Eugen rebooting Act of Aggression anyone tried it yet? I don`t have it yet but would love to hear some feedback.

Have you looked at Fall out 4?

FWIR GC3 hasn't been their bes release, even post DLC. GC2 is still recommended by many over 3 and apparently they recycle a lot from 2 into 3 which is fine. I have decided to wait for a really good sale. +1 to checking out some videos of it first. :)

Stellaris seems to fare better, but apparently has a slow mid-game...but they are patching it and many speak highly of Paradox so it has promise.

I enjoyed the first one, kinda buggy tho. the second was ok, but seriously delayed, and the communication from the Dev team might as well have been relayed from Pluto. However, it looks like they're headed back to the board with Spellforce 3 this year. Guess we'll see!

Spellforce was awesome back then. But I doubt they will be able to pull it off honestly. But here's hoping they do.

I played Ashes the other night...first time in a while actually. I read about the 1.11 and 1.12 patches. Good to see they're adding more units and making more adjustments. I also noticed the load in my PC at Ultra seems to be lower while I can't really see a difference anywhere.

I also got my ass handed to me by a more aggressive AI that took my bete-derived tactics and laughed at them. Awesome!!

I am looking forward to megamaps and the improved mod support they're speaking of and am glad this game is supported by Stardock. It'll be like SoaSE where it gets better over time.

Though one thing I did notice is that I did not get that last DLC for free...and I recall when I bought in I was told I'd get all expansions and DLC for free... Gonna contact em about that.

But really...I still have huge hopes for this title and while it is no SupCom FA...it has the potential to be more. I just hope they keep after it and keep allowing modders to dig in and pick up wherever they leave off.

I have an itchy trigger finger to buy Stellar is but I'm gonna hold off...my buddy talked me into modding Distant Worlds: Universe and giving that a go again for a better 4X experience and give Stellaris until the first Steam sale before I bite...we shall see if I can wait that long!

You can grab Grey Goo for 4$ with the E3 Digital Ticket from Humble Bundle alongside other goodies.

The GoG sale reminded me I had Total Annihilation Commander's Collection...so naturally downloaded and installed.

While it took me a few minutes to re-learn the controls, I was able to pick this up and get going...and next thing I knew an hour had flown by. I forgot how good this game truly was..and I did not give it nearly enough attention back in its day. At least I found an RTS my laptop can play since Ashes makes it scream and sputter...lol.

Download the Community Patch: http://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43735

For $1.49, I don't know if more strategy gaming fun can be had? GO GET IT NOW!!! https://www.gog.com/game/total_anihilation_commander_pack

I am also firing C&C Tiberian Sun back up as well..see if I can get past that part I was previously stuck on. See the OP for download and information to make it run in newer versions of Windows...this is the strategy game I was hooked on for sometime. :D

Dawn of War 3 is looking good to me!

And I should add, OpenRA Tiberian Sun!!!!! Coming soon! :D

Edit: Anyone try the C&C copies from here: https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun

Downloading Tiberian Sun now... looking forward to the OpenRA version in the future after watching the first 10 minutes of the above video...but the CNCNET.org version appears to be a community modded 2016 release...so gonna see what its about.

They have dropped the ball a bit on the last few EU IV expansions, IMO, and the accompanied patches. Less "refinement and features" and more "crazy experiments and total overhauls that might not be needed". And at least one patch/DLC (Common Sense, and I haven't really played anything since then but I'm reading pretty scathing reviews of the two DLC's that have followed) essentially required the DLC, so I feel they have botched the concept of their DLC/patch system.

(the idea is that a lot of the DLC stuff is also part of a free patch, and the DLC adds features, but at least in one instance - Common Sense - the patch made it almost necessary to buy the DLC because a pretty fundemental part of the game was changed but you needed the DLC to use it. Imagine an RPG where you had to take a quest to move the story forwards but that particular quest was a DLC)

In short, I'm not as confident in them as I used to be. The good thing is that they are decent at interacting with their fanbase. And if past releases is any indication there will be DLC galore. EU IV has seven major DLC's so far, since its release in 2013, most of them for about €14 at launch. And that is not counting the bazillions of unit packs and playlists.

Yep I meant to post this as well. Got my free upgrade to it a couple days ago. Runs and looks good! Well worth owning that's for sure.

More on RTS topic, anyone looking forward to Ashes of the Singularity Escalation? I know some folks don't like expandalones...yet ironically many of those will also claim SupCom FA is one of the best RTS games ever.

But regardless I really am looking forward to what 1.5 and 1.6 updates bring to the core game and sooner than later what all Escalation is going to add. I've been really enjoying my time with this title, especially after 1.3 sped things up.
