I was going to edit my post above but it appears I can't so I will just say that if no one followed that #1 Zarya player's story it was a very big one. It wasn't just that two pro players accused her of cheating, they were flat out saying no way a girl could be that good. They staked their pro careers on that claim. Blizz looked into it and found her innocent and to their credit the pro accusers gave up pro gaming (
for life). That is huge in Korea. Pro gamers are treated like heroes over there. The #1 player of SC married a supermodel and made millions. So giving up a chance at that has pretty big implications. Since there is still a lot of sexism (especially over there) it was great to see her freed of blame.
Anybody else here who really finds Overwatch extremely frustrating, unforgiving, and repetitive, to the point at which I have a hard time enjoying it? What am I doing wrong? I spent 2hrs with a friend going over all the different characters and yet I still suck at it. The only character that I find easy is Bastion but it's rather boring and I still die more than anything else. I've never got into TF2 which is what this game reminds me of but I have so many friends that play Overwatch and love it that I want to be able to enjoy playing it as well and preferably not suck at it!
You can't play Overwatch like Call of Duty if that's what you are trying to do. A lone wolf can't do it alone like you can in CoD. Even top tier players like Seagull need a solid team so don't run and gun like CoD. Also there is a reason they
don't post the lobby leaderboard stats like they do with CoD. Only you get to see your stats so worrying about KDR/KDA is pointless. It's hard to remember that, even I sometimes judge my games based on my KDR but that really is the wrong way to play the game. It's all about the objective. If you're helping with the objective (protecting the payload/control point) or doing your job (tanking hits for your team when you're a tank or healing when you're a healer) no one gives a crap what your KDR is.
Though if you're looking for direct answers then learn 2-3 characters at first. Figure out how they are meant to be played. For example, a timid Winston is a useless tank. He needs to leap in there, drop a shield, kill the healer and jump back out while the team figures out what is going on and the rest of your team mops up now there is no healer on their side. Angry Monkey Mode is a perfect example of the game spelling it out for the player how Winston should be played. A reaper should flank and drop down on people and use his mist form to escape. A tracer should go behind enemy lines and annoy the piss out of everyone with her Fast Foward and Rewind abilities. Even if you're not landing killing blows but disrupting the team so they focus on you instead of your team or the objective than you're doing your job. Genji much the same way. A good Genji should target the Bastions and take them out along with the healers. Snipers and Pharahs, take out the Bastions and Turrets. Once you know your role, you need to learn how and when to use your abilities at the right times and that only comes with practice when you see what works and obviously what doesn't. Sometimes an ability that is a great attack can also be used to save your life in those surprise moments and vice versa. You can't be afraid to try stuff out though. Remember, KDR is meaningless in this game if you're playing Quick Play or Vs AI.
Overwatch is a team game. That is the big thing.
Awesome Game
That map with the hole/well in the center of the control point ...ruthlessly knocked 8 people down that hole with Pharah's knockback ability. I was laughing so hard that whole match. If anyone made it onto the control point I made it my mission to knock them in if the ability was up. Every attempt I knocked at least 1 person in. I bet they hated me so much but I didn't care. I enjoyed knocking Roadhog in the most since that chain hook annoys the piss out of me. Even made play of the game. Kharma paid me back the next game but it didn't matter since I had so much fun that match.
Sure people seen it already but still have to share this picture.
