Ok so let say it actually hits 5 GHz on air which seems immpossible since it has been revealed that it will do better with better cooling. So if it could reach 5 on air what does that mean for custom loops 5.5 - 6 GHz. I will only belive this if I see the tests done here on TPU, others sites and sources I dont care about.

I just wish this would not be another hipe train about an AMD product, but we will see soon.

You guys new to AMD hype? Come one guys.......Bulldozer, Phenom, 2900XT?! How many time are you schmucks gonna fall for this $#!T

AMD caught Intel off guard over 20 years ago and you guys still think its gonna happen again. Its not. Let it go.
So thinking that intel will always win and AMD will never compete again is somehow better? Cmon man, dont be a debbie downer.

There is a huge difference between expecting another athlon 64 and expecting another athlon XP.

I remember the old days when AMD dominated the market, at that time it was absurd to say that intel would outperform AMD. I believe AMD will once again be competitive, but it will not dominate the market again.

AMD will absolutely not dominate the market. the only reason they did is because intel screwed up so badly with netburst.

unless, of course, intel makes the same mistake again, or a different, even more extreme mistake.

They are never gonna be competitive against Intel again. Its not where there interests are and its not where the market it going.
So, aside from your terrible grammar, where do their interests lie? AMD's main markets for their CPUs are desktop, laptop, servers, and embedded. And guess what? You need a competitive CPU arch to sell in those areas.

Servers are not going away anytime soon, neither are full computers, no matter how much you believe that tablets will replace them. So where is the market going, exactly, that AMD can just afford to throw away the x86 market?

The amount of vaporware that has come along with those items could choke the planet if released. I say this as a proud owner of 80% AMD systems in my lifetime, and if the price/performance is good I will continue to own it.

True, we are reaching the end of how fast can we execute serial processing loads with out of order execution, and we are becoming faced with the need for better software code and management to take advantage of the parallel nature of hardware. Its only time before we run out of node size and performance increase.

While I do agree anything realistic is possible, Im in my mid twenties and all through my PC experience AMD/ATI has never once held dominance for a long time (personally speaking) so for me thats a sure-fire bet to not trust a company like AMD, and I had a radeon 9000 in the past, 1900xt, 4890, and 7970

Also from an investment standpoint (Tesla stock owner, Panasonic, to name a couple) just looking at AMD's market cap is dismal I mean Intel has been basically printing money over the years while AMD releases 2 year old products, and it doesn't help that AMD has let many intelligent engineers go because of cuts :/

So, are you saying that you cant trust a company because they are not always on top? That's called competition, with each company constantly one upping the other.

Or are you saying the only time you could trust AMD is if they were as powerful and anticompetitive as nvidia?

Thanks for your question, I should have added that each of the graphics cards were terrible overclockers, and the 4890 fan died on me without overclocking it once - So going back to your question it's mostly bad experiences and when all your life you see one 'team' on top of another 'team' in almost every facet of their business plan and products it makes logical sense to support the better company, for me at least

And there really hasn't been much competition to warrant it as such in my opinion, but a 1A, 1B option from Intel/nVidia to AMD/ATI

Coming from a first time Nvidia card owner and it is truly the way it's meant to be played (manipulating the games drivers to favour their cards or not it's smooth and no microstutters from my past Radeon cards :p

Hey thanks good luck have fun to you as well good sir; It's not my business what people think of me, used to be sponsored by Steeelseries and MSI, built my first PC at 16 (Thanks to the help of friends at TPU see 2005 registration qt:) and went Pro in 2010 so definitely not trying to be a homer by any means :p

To be one of the best in the world at something you gotta have the best products, unfortunately it was always Intel, and looking at all the other Pro gamers who want the best, not second best, they go Intel/nvidia, as of late that will change.

What does a fan have to do with AMD? Lol. I had two 4890s and they were amazing (hot when OCed but flawless gaming).

My 6950s were great along with the 7970s and 290X. The problems I did have were not relegated to AMD as those games were just unoptimized and buggy.

Edit: 6950s (flashed to 6970 too).

You see, I agree completely the 6850 crossfire setup was great, my best friend actually had that setup for a long time and it was a great setup first hand watching him play Battlefield and other AAA titles, but I missed that moment to upgrade due to a different buying time cycle I suppose and what I needed the PC for.

Great for you, not for me. Personally a bad experience or two isn't part of my agenda no stress, im not paying 400 dollars for a product that dies on me after 2 years. Sorry.

I suspect with devs having more power than ever with DX12 and Vulkan, that is Nvidia's current problem too.... shit ports galore.

Anyway, this is about Ryzen, dodgy name, overclocker's dream.

The reddit thread this information was posted in quoted a very reliable source (not directly affiliated with AMD) as saying it was possible to get to 5GHz on air, but not at any voltage that would be practical. He also rebuked someone who suspected that it wouldn't go to 5Ghz on Nitrogen.

They are never gonna be competitive against Intel again. Its not where there interests are and its not where the market it going.

Dude either you are going to start putting argument about your seemingly retarded statments (maybe we are all wrong and you are right but until you put up just ANY argument to support your claim, to most of us you will seem as a hardware-newbie.

Eventhough I in NO way have to put up arguments (because you have provided non to argue against);

>AMDs stock have gone up like a rocket the last 10 mounths (+461% since april)
>zen have shown NOTHING but promise from the ANY manufacture and.
>zen is designed by the man who designed the reason Intel have been ahead in 7 years. (iX series)
>AMD have closed agreements consoles china and CERN (shows crazy scalability)
>New management
>first surplus in like 7 years and have payed of debt.
>marketshare is turning (or so it seems on both GFX and CPU.)

Im sure that there is tons of other arguments countering your zero knockouts (call it raging but I am so sick and tired of people not supporting their claims on the internet).

A free market has to have competition, if AMD can't release a processor to compete with Intel then somebody else will. Intel will never have a monopoly on CPU fabrication.

French hardware magazine "CANARD PC HARDWARE" has apparently confirmed that AMD's upcoming Ryzen chips will be able to achieve overclocks of at least 5 GHz on air, if an easter egg hidden on the magazine's Ryzen feature. On page 10 of the digital magazine (which you can look at on the provided link) as well as the physical version, a cryptic string of binary code can be found on top of the page (for reference, the string is as follows: 010110100110010101101110010011110100001101000000010000010110100101110010001111010011010101000111). When you paste this string of binary code on any online binary to plain text converter, you get a revelation that's sure to put a little more coal on the hype train's furnace: ZenOC@Air=5G.

Apparently, the entire article is premised on an early engineering sample that the magazine managed to put its hands on - so we're not even talking about final-stepping silicon. Granted, the information, left as more of an Easter egg tease than a reveal onto itself, raises more questions than it answers (as any good, hype-generating event always does): at what voltage were the 5 GHz achieved at? How many cores did the Ryzen sample possess? Were they all operational? Was it a stable overclock? If so, for how long? What cooling solution was used?

There are potentially many more questions left unanswered by this tease, but nevertheless, this seems like a good sign for the Ryzen bandwagon.

Source: Reddit; user lolwut996633, Reddit; user DotaldTrump

While I don't know who the user is, everyone seems to trust him. So I think it's worth mentioning:

buildzoid user from Reddit said:
I don't have a Zen but I know people who do.

I continue to stand by my comment about 5G not happening on air without too much voltage. This doesn't disprove the statement of ZenOC@Air=5G however I wouldn't get your hopes up because we don't know how many cores or volts actually managed that clock. (my sources never gave me absolute max clock just that it does about X.X for daily use)

For all those wondering about X.X. Well lets just say that I am pleased with X.X.
